Especially when that human is your mom

Alligators and crocodiles share a common ancestor, but the split happened close to 100 million years ago. This is several million years before placental mammals evolved. So humans are more closely related to all non-egg laying mammals than alligators are to crocodiles.

I was wondering why alligators aren't considered a type of crocodile, so I looked it up and learned this today.

Also, the chicken is the closest surviving relative of the T-Rex.

Which, if you think about it, means that the T-Rex probably tasted delicious. Especially when fried.

Although they diverged millions and millions of years ago crocodilians have been pretty stagnant evolutionarily. I'm sure their genetics are still pretty close.

This is also false. The chicken is basically man made, having evolved in captivity just over the past couple millennia. Basically every extant bird is more closely related to the T-Rex. Also, the T-Rex didn't even evolve into birds. Birds evolved from raptors which split off from the larger therapods long before.

They don't. Birds are a subgroup of dinosaurs, which are a subgroup of reptiles.

Yes, that means that taxonomically birds are reptiles.

it still doesnt make sense in that case to think that a t-rex or a triceratops are closer to a chicken than to a crocodile or Komodo dragon

Molecular analysis confirms T. Rexs evolutionary link to birds

https://news.harvard.edu/gazette/story/2008/04/molecular-analysis-confirms-t-rexs-evolutionary-link-to-birds/

Putting more meat on the theory that dinosaurs closest living relatives are modern-day birds, molecular analysis of a shred of 68-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex protein along with that of 21 modern species confirms that dinosaurs share common ancestry with chickens, ostriches, and to a lesser extent, alligators.

...

Even though we only had six peptides just 89 amino acids from T. rex, we were able to establish these relationships with a relatively high degree of support. With more data, wed likely see the T. rex branch on the phylogenetic tree between alligators and chickens and ostriches, though we cant resolve this position with currently available data.

T-Rex be saying, "BAAAAAWK BAAAAAWK BAAAAAAWK!!!"
