How will we adapt? So many things use fossil fuels, it's wild. We would go back to the way we lived prior to the 1800s.

It will be good for Earth at least.

Only in the sense that having every fat cell in your body vaporized is good for your body.

The major nations will adapt with new technologies but the oil exporters (especially the Middle East in particular) will fall into chaos and borderline ruin. Maybe not immediately but it will be a painful death.

I think we should be able to adapt. Transportation will figure out how to replace fuel engines with electricity alternatives, even airplanes. More people will ride bicycles. Maybe nuclear fission will be a thing. Imagine it being used in cars like in Fallout.

Instead of making moves with something like renewables or other kinds of energy, we're just gonna blow up the whole planet over the last bit of fossil fuels that will remain in like the arctic or wherever.

If we have to live without fossil fuels, we're gonna blow the whole thing up instead.

They will have to as they will have no choice. Once all the reserves run out, the laggers will adapt or get left behind.

That asteroid would have to be the size of the moon. lol There is nothing like that coming here. Also, any asteroids in the size of 1-10 km aren't likely coming here for at least 100 years. We also have defensive measures now like DART. We'll be alright.

Watch "The End of Suburbia", it's a very interesting documentary about this topic.

Basically, oil is the most efficient energy efficient fuel we have by far. When the economy grows, we need more energy (oil). It wouldn't be feasible to replace oil by renewables if you want to keep having the same annual growth or just to keep the economy the size it is right now.

Basically, oil has been fueling the 'endless growth' model the world is in right now. Once oil runs out, the world would need to adapt to less energy efficient renewables and other energy sources, and of course consume less. Of course, that would mean the economy would shrink considerably, there would be unrest, resource wars and famine (as industrial agriculture relies on oil derivated petrochemicals)

tldr; oil is a finite energy credit card and one day we'll have to pay its bill

Imho when oil & coal run out :
- Most will start burning methane and/or ethanol as primary fuel.
- A few will use nuclear power plant.
- An extremely select few will fully use renewable source of energy

No they won't. They are preparing for a global oil collapse right now precisely to avoid this shit. Their golf league and other sudden investments in other industries are designed to keep them economically stable after oil is no longer a global commodity.

Nothing crazy like a revert of civilization will happen. Life will continue as normal.

Nuclear will just take it's place and future generations will think we were incredibly dumb for not going nuclear a long time ago when the answer to global warming was in front of us the entire time.
