...but granted, I'm historically pretty easy to whelm.

I thought they did a great job making Bowser look menacing, Keegan Michael-Key made for an okay Toad, it looks like Chris Pratt is going for a combination of Charles Martinet Mario and Brooklyn Mario and the movie is fucking gorgeous. That battleship at the start looked fantastic.

The thing about Illumination is that despite somewhat rightfully being mocked for the Minions and their lolrandum humor, they have made some pretty decent movies since the nadir of their output. I saw the first Sing movie when I was working at a cinema, and despite the marketing making it out to be a movie I would absolutely fucking hate, Sing was really good - I had to watch it like six times that summer, and I honestly really enjoyed it each time. Apparently Sing 2 is just as good, so I might have to seek it out.

The Mario movie looks gorgeous, even if Mario is a bit gonky. Bowser looks fantastic. The voicework is still up in the air, but the visuals are really up there and I think the movie is going to resonate with audiences because they're going to play it mostly straight.

Miyamoto is heavily involved and the trailer makes it look really true to the text of Mario Bros. I'm really excited to see this movie. Worst case scenario, it's a 5/10. Best case scenario imo, it's an 8.5/10.

Yeah it's really weird how... off, Mario looked. Hard to really say what it is. Also Chris does NOT do a good Mario voice... sounds more like Mike Wazowski.

I like it too. This is the kinda stuff we've been needing for decades now. Looks like a proper take on the old Sonic formula. He-Man, basically.

Does Bowser need to be menacing? It's Bowser. He rides go karts and has a rebellious preteen son.

The penguins being incredibly sincere with their snowball attacks was hilarious

Yes. He can be goofy too but we forget that Bowser is fucking powerful as hell.

I liked it too. Bowser looks big and intimidating, as he should and Jack Black makes it work too.

Not sure on Chris Pratt yet. He only has like two lines in the trailer anyway, so. I do like that they didn't go with him faking a ridiculous Italian accent.

Its going to make like $2 billion.
