As in, being born out of wedlock.

Like what's so bad about being born when your parents didn't get married? We have DNA testing, so the whole "rightful heir" thing is out the window. All I can think of is some sort of fundie-ass "inherent sin" or it going "against family values" or some stupid drooling nonsense.

Shit, what's the upside to having married parents? Apparently divorces are super fucked up on children - parents separating is a fucked up experience regardless of marriage, but I've heard about how divorce seems to be especiall bad.

Just fundie shit.

If you're in a relationship but not married when you/your partner get pregnant (and decide to keep it), the smart decision is to put off marriage until the child is two.

1: Mothers are eligible for WiC benefits so long as they are unmarried. a live in boyfriend is not a marriage, and it does not matter how long you've been together or if the live in boyfriend is the father of the child. Getting married is literally just saying no to free assistance.

2: it just slows you the fuck down, which is important in that situation. Even in this day and age there's still a lot of pressure to "do things right" and slowing down, even if just for the wic benefits, helps make sure you aren't rushing into a bad marriage just because you're having a kid.

Not in this day and age.

There are still some fucked-up disadvantages for partners who are not married, though.

Kids with single parents are more likely to have emotional and behavioral challenges like aggression or engaging in high-risk behaviors.

I hear that.

I've heard about some fucked up shit about disabled people though, how if they get married they lose their benefits. Weird how it works in reverse for them, they get fucked in the ass if they do get married. Good for them if they marry a doctor or pharmaceutical rep, but usually when they fall in love and want to get married, they have to go under their partner's salary whether it can support them both or not.

I agree. Is that specific to bastards, though?
