I hung out with some of them back in 2018 at an animal rights protest in Denver and all of them struck me as people who didn't really have anything else going on in their lives and viewed themselves as expendable, to the point of it being cult-like. They were the worst version of a vegan stereotype you can concoct, perhaps the only time I've ever found the term "militant vegan" to be apt. I absolutely love the mission as an idea but there's no way their methods will ever effect meaningful change.
