Take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt.

Is it possible the spider just doesn't like the vibration of the phone? Like when I press my phone it has a vibration frequency. Could the spider just be reacting to that vibration frequency.

Her phone seems to be touching the table.

Why is this surprising? Many insects and other creatures can see parts of the spectrum we cant see, so why not sense a LIDAR beam?

ETA: poor spider. :-(

Well she's tapping on the table with her finger and it doesn't respond to that.

Lidar isn't actually invisible & can damage human eyes if operated at unsafe power levels. That was probably torture for the spider.

Seeing light that humans can't see isn't exactly unusual in the animal kingdom

I wonder if it detects it better when triangulated like that. They should've tried tapping anywhere on the phone screen or a spot away from the spider to see if it still reacts. I'm guessing the beam is just general and the app is the thing that focuses a certain spot though
