It wasn't an amazing game to begin with, but it had a cool aesthetic and a somewhat interesting story about a 1920s cartoon character coming to life and mutating into a monster because it lacked a soul. Then the ending tries some ambiguous it was all just a story/dream bullshit.

I think it was a PC RPG game on a CD.
I cant remember the name of it, but the developers were running out of space and the publisher didnt want to pay for a second disc just for the ending, so the ending was just a short piece of text.

Man I thought the Drakengard giant baby ending would be like the first thing posted, surprised nobody brought it up.

Honestly this one grew on me because if you take it literally/ironically and then take into account that Tsumugi just decided plot beats on the fly, presumably without consulting other staff, as well as how when she changes into her Junko cosplay she announces herself as the 53rd one, it shows that not only is the team in-universe full of absolutely hack writers that have no idea what they're doing, but it's also somewhat meta in that Danganronpa's formula must be abided by to the point of stagnation which limits creativity as well.

Although if you do care about the worldbuilding and lore of Danganronpa and don't hate it like I do, then yeah the ending is pretty awful.

While I'm not a fan of how it got all grim dark at the end with the Grotesqueries and especially the events of the final ending it led to Nier and eventually Nier Automata which people like a bit more than Drakengard so more people came accept the final ending just for that. In hindsight it was clever of Yoko Taro to do this because it's rare when a rebranding ends up becoming more popular than what it originated from. Still would like to get a proper remake of the original Drakengard someday, but Drakengard 3's failure is likely making Square Enix afraid to commit to it.

Yep, that's exactly it. It's dumb and stupid and weird and shitty, but I still love it.

There's a sniper game where when you kill the final boss the game IMMEDIATELY fades to black and you get a "The End" screen, that's it.

I've said it many times before and I'll stay it again, that kind of twist just isn't the kind of thing you introduce into a jrpg series already 3 games in at that point. (SO1, SO2, and blue sphere). As someone that loved SO2's plot for the most part I also cannot stand SO3's twist. Like you can introduce this twist into any jrpg series where the games are either directly or distantly linked plotwise in someway (and is already multiple games in of course) and it will almost always come up freaking stupid (obvious exception to games that already deal with it being a video game and played by gamers like with .hack). Lufia 1 and 2, make a lufia 3 where its all a mmo played by 4D beings. Do it again for theoretical mother 4, retcon shadow hearts 3 for this after koudelka and shadow hearts 1 n' 2 (although some might see this as an improvement, lol), valkyria chronicles 5, etc.

Imagine if you were someone who really loved mother 3 and the wild ride lucas went through, a mother 4 comes out, and it goes with that kind of twist in yep...its totally canon, happens directly after mother 3.......yeah, thats how some of we SO2 fans feel.

I feel like it would have been better received if something like that was done right from the very beginning instead of randomly going to that from all the lore building from the first three games. Even then, because of the time when SO3 was made, to me it still comes off as just a rip-off of the matrix with a few things flipped around thus it ain't even as "deep" that some jrpg fans think it is.

Why is not very many people playing a Game Boy/Phone game that was only released in Japan a "for some reason" mystery to you?

Also forgot that asura's wrath didn't even have a ending with the retail release.....it was dlc, lol.

I had a Ghostbusters game on my Atari that when you completed it just came up with a black screen and the message Congratruation. You try again.

Oh, shit, I forget about it until you reminded me. There was an indie game I don't remember the name of where you go into a room (it might be where the last boss is supposed to be or it might just be a random room) and it suddenly pops up with a text box telling you what happens. They ran out of money.
