Ill start with...
https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/a/user_image/3/1/4/AAatkdAADvFy.jpg
[] Metroid 1986
[] Metroid 2: The Return of Samus
[] Super Metroid!
[] Super Smash Bros.
[] Super Smash Bros. Melee
[] Metroid Prime
[] Metroid Fusion
[] Metroid: Zero Mission
[] Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
[] Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
[] Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
[] Metroid: Samus Returns
[] Metroid Dread

Whew - what a series. There's really not that many Metroid games, now that I look at it, but all of them are great and maybe we can chalk it up to a case of quality over quantity. (Besides Other M, arguably lol). There's so many copycats in the Metroidvania genre too, so if you're looking for more of the same, fret not - there's plenty of metroidvanias out there (good ones), but this one started it all. Like, the whole thing basically. And for good reason.

Few Metroidvanias quite stand up to the original

Metroid stands out among its brethren in the Nintendo lineup too and has seen it all since the beginning, on Nintendo's very first system (NES) in 1986 and carrying the torch to eventually become a full fledged, big budget 3D adventure with the release of Prime on Gamecube. First created more as kind of an alternate, darker, action packed take on Mario which had recently become popular, Samus Aran and her faithful powersuit with the unique exploration gameplay around her, evolved over the years to become what players will most likely recognize from the Super Metroid years (although Metroid 2 arguably did it first, at least as far as visuals go)

Really can't say enough good things about Metroid

There's a few I haven't really played much of (Pinball, Hunters, etc) so I chose to leave them out. Not saying they're bad or not either way XD

Next I want to add...

[] Moonstone: A Hard Days Knight

Cool DOS game (for PC ofc), probably flew under most people's radars. I like it. Up to four players can sit down and compete on a map in a campaign, traveling from area to area as you carve your path, meeting NPCs in towns, wizards, bandits, etc, and fighting monsters in a Streets of Rage-esque combat system, and making RPG decisions based on their inventory (stats, stockpile of potions, gold, etc), how many wins vs losses you accumulate, and how you interact with the other players (steal their stuff, knock them out, etc) all effects how you advance in the game. Every decision matters a little bit (a lot)

There's even a dragon flying around, which serves as a boss if you run into it. The environments look great, imo. I love the art.

Reminds me of Souls a bit with the multiplayer aspect, but ultimately is a D&D sort of thing, but with real time action combat to go along with the adventure map system, so when you enter an area you aren't just rolling dice or selecting attacks from a menu list. There's lots of games like this tbh, but Moonstone is one that stands out to me.

[] Star Wars: Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight

Pretty heavy hitter as far as Star Wars games go. Easily up there with Knights of the Old Republic and LEGO StarWars, or whatever your favorite SW game is, haha. Actually, seriously there's a ton of great games from Star Wars , including other games in the same series (Dark Forces/Jedi Knight), or similar games like The Force Unleashed, and Fallen Order. I bet most gamers have had plenty of fun with a SW vehicle simulator (Pod Racer, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter, something in the Battlefront series, Jedi Starfighter, etc) at some point during or another. So there's that. The wealth of SW multimedia including the games definitely at least stands up to the original trilogy, classic masterpieces. Id say Dark Forces II is at least on par with the Thrawn novels.

And another...

[] Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

This one's easy. Arguably the best of the Castlevania series (or at least the most successful) They say it spawned its own genre, as one half of what became Metroidvania, and is to this day still so popular that they're still making big media based directly on it (Netflix anime, multiple seasons) Alucard is pretty well known. Dracula backwards. Has a pretty great equipment system, tbh, which I don't think enough games quite come close to capturing the freedom and creativity behind all the possible combinations of weapons/items/magic in this game. Even stuff like Final Fantasy games tend to put up a lot of walls behind any fun/useful abilities. SotN its pretty easy to get "overpowered" with a setup of your own making, unlike Metroid, and it doesn't take much commitment or anything to find all the stuff you need as you progress through the game to get cool new powerful abilities.

Easily up there with Knights of the Old Republic and LEGO StarWars,
Can you qualify that better? Currently suffering through LEGO SW Complete and think that anyone who puts it in top-tier SW games is outta their minds.

I mean...

Can I qualify the game? Or should I just touch on why I picked it, which is like the opposite spectrum of KotOR, yet I think there's some overlap or similarities in quality too. Kotor = good, LEGO SW = lol, is all I meant. I appreciate the reply, and think you hit the nose on the head on that one. Not sure what else to say hah

It just tends to be a fan favorite is all. I wouldn't say it's a bad game, but more of an ode to old shoddy 3D platformers

I think I was also looking for a game that was considered "good", but should look worse when compared with Dark Forces 2. To prop up the latter a little more.

[] Shadow of the Colossus

sort of Tuber poison, imo. Doesn't really stream well, the artsy indie puzzle style clashes with a lot of the industry standards and cues nowadays, has a divisive sequel, and is a sequel to a game which I'm sure swallows many a gamer into a dark, long retro phase lol. Is sure to shift the narrative in the comment section, has a ton of clout, as a PS2 game and so on, and it's really not a comedy or politics thing. Definitely one of the greats. Goes without saying, and should need no introduction. A real legend
