Whew - what a series. There's really not that many Metroid games, now that I look at it, but all of them are great and maybe we can chalk it up to a case of quality over quantity. (Besides Other M, arguably lol). There's so many copycats in the Metroidvania genre too, so if you're looking for more of the same, fret not - there's plenty of metroidvanias out there (good ones), but this one started it all. Like, the whole thing basically. And for good reason.

Few Metroidvanias quite stand up to the original

Metroid stands out among its brethren in the Nintendo lineup too and has seen it all since the beginning, on Nintendo's very first system (NES) in 1986 and carrying the torch to eventually become a full fledged, big budget 3D adventure with the release of Prime on Gamecube. First created more as kind of an alternate, darker, action packed take on Mario which had recently become popular, Samus Aran and her faithful powersuit with the unique exploration gameplay around her, evolved over the years to become what players will most likely recognize from the Super Metroid years (although Metroid 2 arguably did it first, at least as far as visuals go)

Really can't say enough good things about Metroid

There's a few I haven't really played much of (Pinball, Hunters, etc) so I chose to leave them out. Not saying they're bad or not either way XD
