Kraken the spiced rum (which is relatively significantly better than the largely lifeless Clash of the Titans remake) even used it in its marketing, IIRC.

It may not have been as disappointing as matrix 3 but it was still disappointing. Killing the kraken offscreen is like when they hyped up the albino twins and then did nothing with them after the one scene in the 2nd movie.

Oh, those two are good. But they're just side characters in the end. The main character is Sam Worthington, and he's basically just bumbling through an epic quest the whole time with no personality.

The first time I ever walked out of a movie was Wrath of the Titans. Never even seen the first. Then I snuck into Casa de mi Padre and that was the second time I walked out of a movie.

Of course, but the fan push for the Kraken name was absolutely meme-related.

Nobody gave a fuck about that in the Pacific Northwest outside that meme.

Same as how the Toronto Raptors name only exists because of Jurassic Park, but at least that was slightly timely on their end.
