Minimum wage is nowhere close to a livable wage in my city ($12/hr), so the government already allows them to pay an amount of money that you cannot survive on. It also drives fewer workers over longer hours. These will save the company money and drive up profits, which makes them more competitive than other businesses. Even with established minimum wage, many companies hire people illegally and give them less than that, either straight up breaking the laws, or providing them with "benefits" that they claim has value enough to offset their wages. This is why we need Unions and Labor Laws, to protect us from corporations doing whatever it takes to raise profits by exploiting their workers. --- Others don't get to dictate what's normal and what isn't.
