Love gundams but the game seems sorta weak compared to stuff recently released.

im having a lot of fun with it
the units aren't as pigeonholed into roles like in overwatch so you dont live and die on team comp which makes playing it casualy so much funner

plus GUNDAM

it's a pretty good overwatch clone, though it feels too overwatchy at times. like every mech's skillset feels like the overwatch characters' skillsets got randomized. like, methuss has mercy's heal beam and something similar to her flying, a baby version of torbjorn's turret, and ana's ult. sazabi is sorta like reinhardt and roadhog mashed together. barbatos is genji+doomfist (his ult is three of genji's slashes in a row lol)

one neat thing is that healing is never really a required part of any team composition because health pickups are so common and health begins regenerating after a while. but like half the cast has some form of team healing anyways

Looks like another shitty FPS only with a Gundam coat of paint, just like those EA Battlefront games with a Star Wars coat of paint.

I'm mostly just afraid it'll be one of those game I put a little money in and it'll be dead in a month.

then don't put money into it, some mechs cost money (or are timegated for f2p) but the majority don't

you might be tempted if you really like 00 gundam or unicorn though cuz Exia and Unicorn aren't free

From the review I watched. The currency needed for new suits was limited with a hard cap.

I think it's just timegated. You get Capital from dailies, weeklies, and beginner missions. Some of the beginner missions are "login for X days"

I think you get like 200 from dailies as f2p? 2000~ capital for one mech

I could be wrong since I am going off of only one review video, but apparently there's three currencies and the one used for new suits is either bought or given for completing the tutorials. Could be mistaken. But if that's the case, that's a hard cap for that particular currency

Okay nevermind you're right, dailies give some other kind of currency which... I think is season pass experience? Regardless, it DOES still end up ultimately being a timegate, just based on seasons and not days. You can get 2000~ Capital from the free season pass per season. And seasons seem to last 60 days, so that's one mech every two months just from renewable Capital. Which... kinda sucks, but it'll probably outpace new mechs being added, at least.

So been playing it for a bit, I like it. But it's weird that they started with Sazabi in the line up but left Nu out of it. I mean I know they gotta have things to add down the line, but still.

It plays okay but theres so many other games I'd rather sink my teeth into, with all these MP games with battle passes really just turn me off since I feel like they trying to enslave me to the game.

It's also extremely grindy and the menus are unintuitive.

On paper it sounds like something I would love. I love Gundam and I love(d) Overwatch 1.

the battlefront games were actually good though

it was just battlefield but star wars, and this was before battlefield went to shit

The game is sorta jarring because they did a bad job at making it feel you are in a giant mech. I remember there was one match where it looked like there was toy Tonka Dump trucks on it and they were actually full sized strip mine dump trucks.

Over all I am enjoying the gameplay, but they could have done a lot, and I mean a lot better with the maps

Yeah the scale is kinda wack. The other online Gundam game I played before (which it looks like they killed in preparation of GE, went down earlier this year) was way better with the scale. That one wasn't trying to be an arena shooter though, it was 51vs51 mass warfare.

Its free to play so no reason not to. Plus, if you like Gundam like I do, the alt skins from the loot boxes have zero interest.
