The radioactive fallout would spread to his city pretty quickly given how close they are.

Outside of Moscow and St. Petersburg, the rest of Russia is like a third world country. Russia has way less to loose in a full on nuclear war. In a way, he would be bringing the rest of the world down to his level.

Call me cynical, but I totally think he would do it. Im just hoping he and his inner circle get assassinated before then.

I don't think it'll get that far, but that doesn't mean there aren't plenty of other atrocities for him left to commit.

I like to think hes smart enough and human enough not to do it. With the rumors of him having a terminal disease this was likely a grab at power to cement his legacy as expanding. He should know now he will be looked upon poorly from outside and within because he exposed how weak Russia was. He knows hes on his way out now and I dont think he would try to take the world with him. I also dont think the ones responsible for sending that missile would go through with it.

Because doing something stupid and self-destructive is totally out of character for Putin.

Maybe if things end up going even more horribly wrong. It does seem like Putin is mostly off his rocker.

Though I can't imagine anything beyond a last-resort "If I can't win, nobody can" thing.

If Putin loses he is going to be killed. So I could see him do it.

It's in the best interest of the entire planet that cooler heads take control of the situation.

He gets assassinated as soon as he gives the launch order, going to give some credence to humanity and someone will take him out before he decides to start a nuclear holocaust.

I don't think the yes men want to die.

The people launching the missiles will tell him they are launched, and that the destruction was super destructive, but in reality, they are trying to flee the country because they sold essential engine components on the black market, and the missiles haven't left the silos.
