Stadia worked really well. Google just didn't care to truly make it workout in terms of having AAA games.

The actual gameplay experience and portability has been wonderful for me

Stadia launched in 2019 and will end in 2023, four years after launch.

The Ouya store was supported for six years from 2013 to 2019.

So my understanding is you still had to buy games? Like it wasn't a service like Netflix, you paid for games individually that you then streamed. I can't imagine doing that.

I don't mean that other platforms don't have games. I meant due to its portability and just general use. I have no consoles or gaming PC and haven't for like 8 years. I was sent a free Chromecast and a controller and that was all I needed to play games on my TV. I turned the controller on and it just was what spurred me into playing games easily. I could buy a game and start playing it a second earlier. I could switch from the TV, to my laptop, to my phone, all seamlessly. It was just easy. When I was on travel for work, I could play in the hotel as well on my laptop, phone, or hotel TV.

Otherwise, I just would not have gone through the whole process of getting a gaming PC or buying a console and there are many games I'd have never played these past 2 years.

There was a subscription service that let you buy games for a cheaper price and also let you play a library of games for free by claiming it, with games added to that library monthly. Once you claimed a game, it was added to your account as long as you had the subscription service.

They had a subscription but it worked more like PS+ where you claimed games.

The Netflix of Games is Xbox GPU + xCloud.

They had a lot of anti consumer practices but nothing shady. Arguably the shit they did was pretty tame compared to some of the DRM & MTX controversies from publishers.

Probably YouTube game streaming. The negative latency was already being used by Microsoft with their failed Mixer product.

My story is I got Stadia for free for subscribing to YouTube Premium/Music. I didn't want it but it grew on me because it worked so well and it was the only way I could play Cyberpunk.

Depends where you live. I live near a Google data center and you pretty much couldn't even tell the game was from the cloud.

On September 29, 2022, Google announced that the Stadia servers will be turned off on January 18, 2023. The following article includes answers to common questions and will be updated as new information becomes available. Please check back for updates before contacting support.

Q: How long will I be able to play my games on Stadia?

A; We will be leaving the Stadia platform and game servers online until January 18, 2023, so you can continue to play games in your library.

Q: Will all games work as expected during this time?

A: We anticipate that there will be some gameplay issues during this period, especially any games requiring commerce, but the majority of games should continue to work normally.

Q: What about my game progress? Can I take my game progress to another platform?

A: While that may be possible for some games that support cross-progression play on other platforms, unfortunately, for the majority of games, that wont be possible.

Q: Will I get a refund? What is available for a refund?

A: We will be offering refunds for all Stadia hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made through the Google Store and software transactions (games and add-on purchases) through the Stadia store. Stadia Pro subscriptions are not eligible for refund, however you will be able to continue playing your games in Pro without further charges until the final wind down date.

Q: Do I have to return my hardware to get a refund?

A: Most hardware purchases (Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition, and Play and Watch with Google TV packages) made directly from Google will not need to be returned. More details on how to obtain a refund for your Stadia hardware purchases will be posted here in the coming weeks.

By the way guys, the Stadia controller is the most comfortable controller I've ever owned. Wish more controllers had long handles like this.

They really need to now enable the Bluetooth in the controllers so it can be used for other things.

Do they legally have to refund or are they just doing it for good faith credit? Cause if it's the latter, that's actually pretty cool.

I hope someone makes a patch for PC that lets you use the stadia controller over the WiFi that was a legitimately good idea.
