Trixie's costume has no issues, since no one can portray Trixie in pajamas better than Trixie herself wearing the actual pajamas.

nah, haven't really done anything all that Halloween-y since moving. for one, our neighborhood doesn't have a lot of young kids so there's not any trick-or-treating to be had.

There might be something wrong with our male cat. He's been eating less, being even skinnier than usual (which is saying something), and he's been less energetic. He usually always hops up into my brother's lap when we're eating dinner, but hasn't done that for the past few nights. My brother's going to have him looked at. I hope he can be cured, but it could just be old age. I really don't wanna lose him; life's been depressing enough lately. Like, I genuinely feel like things will never be okay again.

it's never a good time to loose a pet. if it's a condition/illness, I hope he pulls through, too.

The cat's blood test will come in tomorrow. In the meantime, he's sluggish from the shots he got. My brother tells me that he had trouble getting in the litter box and was too tired to get out, so he had to help him out. I'm gonna set an alarm and get up early to keep an eye on him while my brother is at work.

So I decided to spend the day in my brother's room, where the cat has settled down. He's hunkered down under an end table all day. My brother put a blanket down next to him, but he's sticking to the floor. The cat just now used the litter box and came back out with no problem, so hopefully that's a sign of progress. Though he went right back under the table afterwards.

Tried to get him to drink via a feeding syringe, but he's resisted that, turning away. I put a water bowl next to him, but he hasn't drank out of it.

Well, he drank some water from the bowl, walked around for a bit, scratched a couple things, then went back under the table. I'm hoping that's a sign of progress.

My brother got the results, and... it's bad. Really bad. The cat has a heart disease. High levels of whatever toxins he has. We don't think he's gonna make it. My brother was actually tearing up telling me the news and believe me, he's pretty stoic. I'm choking up a bit too, and it's probably gonna be worse once it fully sinks in for me.

This cat... he's my buddy. He loves my mom and brother too, but he always loved me the most after the GF moved out. He loved hopping up into my lap, getting pats, head scratches, and chin scratches. In spite of being a bit of weirdo, we all love him dearly, and he loves us back. Getting used to life without him will be difficult.

sorry to hear that, Mega. as I said, it's always rough to lose a pet. but he's got you all to keep him comfortable and loved. he's very fortunate compared to others out there.

Yeah, the GF was kinda emotionally immature and had a loud speaking voice, so he was kind of a brat when he arrived. After she left and he got used to us, he became a lot more quiet, relaxed, and affectionate. At least we can take comfort in knowing we gave him a more enjoyable home than she did.

The cat got some medicine, which gave him some energy back. He came downstairs, hopped up on the couch, laid on my lap for a bit, then got some shuteye in the middle cushion. He sniffed, but ignored a small bowl of bottle water my mom brought, then went down to my room.

Wonder how long that'll help. Seems like a band aid on a big wound to me. I wish he'd eat and drink; get some weight back. He's had nothing but some medicine and a few sips of water today. My brother says he came over when he opened their cans of cat food, but he just sniffed it and walked back.

Well, about time to go to bed and do this all again tomorrow. I'm not looking forward to it, but I can't stand to let my buddy suffer alone.

Christ, I'm not ready for this...

EDIT: Went up to my brother's room and the cat hopped up in my lap. Now he's curled up, enjoying his favorite lap for comfort.

He doesn't want to go, either.

And now, I'm crying.

He went to my room in the basement, spent some more time in my lap, then went under my bed. He never goes under my bed. The only other time he has is when some loud lightning scared him. Cats do instinctively go hide themselves away when they sense they're dying. My bedframe has a sheet covering it, and I saw it flipped up last night after my brother went down to retrieve him, so he could have been hiding under there then as well.

Edit: He came back out and is on my lap again.

His temperature is down, his breathing sounds better, he purred, he tried grooming himself, and hopping up like he did is much more than he did the past couple days. We both agreed to wait and see what happens tomorrow. My brother definitely doesn't wanna make the wrong call.

Got some dinner from the pizza place across the street (since we definitely weren't in the mood to cook), and they had a box of Doordash insulated bags for some reason, so they gave me one for free. Nice.

Surprisingly, I found the cat in one of our living room chairs this morning. I was expecting him to be in my brother's room or hiding under my bed again. It's probably because that boy my mom used to babysit a couple years back came over for a visit yesterday and messed with the thermostat, so the cat wanted warmth. I don't know if it's a sign of improvement or if the need for warmth overrode the instinct to hide away.

He went back to the basement the moment me and my mom left the room. Thankfully not under my bed, but instead a cozy little box that's laying on its side that I put a towel in. I had a blanket laid out on the floor in case he wanted to cuddle. He did for a bit, then went back in. Man, I can't tell if he's really getting better or just trying to act normal. Thankfully, tomorrow is my brother's two days off, so he'll be able to make a better judgement.

...we've made our decision. We're sending him off tomorrow. We can tell he wants to be up and about, but his heart just won't allow that anymore.

Sorry man.

We're a little over an hour away. After it's done, we plan to have him cremated. Not sure where we'll keep the ashes, but there's some built-in shelves in the living room that are safe and sturdy.

Man, all those late nights where I'd be the only one up and he'd come down for some lap time... I definitely appreciated his company. I can't believe that's over now. Our other cat likes me, but she's more of a fan of my mom and brother. She sits in my lap too, but she never flops down and makes herself at home like he did. She always either sits up or lays down in a sphinx position.

Also gonna miss seeing him laying under the dining room table, basking in the rays of the morning sun.

He got one last cuddle session in my lap before they took him away to put the catheter tube in his leg. We stayed by his side as he passed. He deserved to pass with his two favorite guys at his side. I'm gonna miss you so fucking much, buddy.

We got an impression of his paw print, which we'll be sending to my brother's ex, who got the cat in the first place. But first, there's a spot for a photo in it, so we'll attach a good one. She contacted him and was definitely sad about the whole situation.

And now I'm wondering how he'll divvy up the wet cat food. Each can had enough for two servings, so we could just split one can among two bowls and be done with it. Is he now gonna have to wrap the half can in plastic wrap every other night?
