Nice little cassette collection. I've thought about getting into them just because some labels/musicians I listen to refuse to release on vinyl and seem to release only on tapes, but honestly I don't feel like dropping what I need to drop on a good vintage player right now. ALL of the modern tape players all have these cheap ass mechs from the same distributer/manufacturer and they're straight up garbage. What are you playing them on?

One of my deepest regrets was throwing my late dad's entire cassette collection into a dumpster bin.
We couldn't afford the self storage fees anymore and couldn't store them at home.

I still feel like garbage for losing that part of him.

That's about where mine would be. I have some test pressings that are hard to put a value to because the handful of copies out there never change hands.

Yeah, I have this old dirty late 90s Chicago tap tape that I paid $300 for and constantly have ppl on discogs asking me to rip it or resell it because it's possibly the only known surviving copy

Legit. Bootlegs have a thicker border and don't have the black smudge in the bottom left quadrant. Legit pressing also has shorter track lengths

Certain ones, not all. Memphis rap in particular has wild value.

I've no idea what the value of my collection is, but it's definitely more than $16,000

I don't really value my collection in terms of money though.

I agree about not thinking of your collection in terms of monetary value, but for insurance purposes I'd take photos of your collection and if doable, catalog them on Discogs. I've heard stories of people being reimbursed based on the median value listed there.

I use a site called Recordnerd.com to keep track of everything. But It's all just information that I enter myself and doesn't say what anything's worth unless I look it up elsewhere and enter it in.

I'd never even heard of Discogs when I first started cataloging everything online.

I only have physical copies of burned CDs I've made. I might still have a LilWyte CD in one of my 6 CD slots in the car (it's an '01).

Project Pat's Mista Don't Play was the shit though. Nice

My collection is worth a little over $3,000 according to Discogs. None of the tapes I own are very valuable and neither are most of my records save for a few classic rock albums and recent releases. The most expensive item in my collection is actually an 80s reissue of Pink Floyd's Meddle.

But anyway it's the music that's most important.

Yeah, a lot of my tapes are priceless tbh. So much of that old Memphis stuff is never going to be repressed ever again. I'd never consider selling unless I was just strapped for cash or made a ludicrous offer.

Tommy Wright sent me that autographed tape for my bday and that shit is worth more than gold.

This cassette tape ain't worth shit in terms of money, but it's one of the most important things of my life.

I got it for xmas in 1995 when I was 10 and it was the first album I ever owned.

It was the beginning of this
