Yeah who the **** would take a 8 mile 3 dollar order from Burger King to a random apartment complex in the hood/tail end of the zone totaling 30 minutes of time minimum.

You do understand that Doordash is structured like Uber right? It's not a company you just apply for and get a set salary. If you don't tip then a dasher can just accept a tip order and move on with his day. It's you and the company that is losing essentially.

I do not understand people who refuse to tip for services rendered. The only issue I have with delivery drivers is how absolutely stupid and lazy they are, but this is only something I experience here in Pittsburgh. Back in NYC I never had issues with food delivery.

Because you should tip based on quality of the service. Pre tipping is a weird concept. If a delivery isnt satisfactory, they dont deserve a tip.
This it be like going to a restaurant and tipping the waiting staff without ever getting food first.

The difference is that restaurant staff don't get to pick and choose who they want to serve. Door Dash drivers are not obligated to accept any orders

All these services now require pre tipping.

Last year I had an incident with a food delivery driver. Ordered around $200 worth of food. I tipped $40 thinking it was generous and due to the sheer amount of food. The person called me and complained saying that they wanted at least $100.
Lol a 50% tip

Some people aren't able to leave the house. During covid I had coworkers that were on lock down so they had to order all of their food and supplies to come to their door.

I've had elderly relatives that have had mobility issues and getting up to drive was too painful and exhausting for them so they had to order in food and rely on family to pick up other essentials for them.

I've known other people that were going through chemo so they had to limit their exposure to other people to the barest minimum as much as possible because a gentle breeze could kill them.

Also sometimes people are inebriated and it's best for those people to stay off the road.

This attitude you have is the problem.

In fact the entire tipping culture in America needs to die.

Pointing at Uber doesn't excuse Door Dash who's it's own company btw, or Uber paying their staff under minimum wage (or whatever their supposed low wage is).

It is the employers responsibility to pay it's staff, not the customers.

These employers are in no rush to fix their wages partially because tipping culture encourages employers to rely on its customers to pick up the wage tab. Then customers encourage this behavior.

I prefer ubereats to doordash, because ubereats let's you easily edit a tip after delivery. So if I didn't like service, I change it to $0 after already getting my food

That and total prices are consistently lower than doordash despite having complimentary dashpass through Chase

Yes. I understand there's extenuating circumstances, but I'd bet 90% of the doordash orders, especially now than covid restrictions are lifted basically everywhere, are not made becasue of the circumstances you described.

Most are from people willing to pay an extra $5 for McDonalds because they don't feel like getting off the couch. THOSE are the situations I'll never understand.

I'm not really sure if that's the case, cause stuff like that really adds up quickly. I'd love to see if Ubereats or Doordash actually has this data available. Most people I've known that use these services because they're lazy and just want McDonald's don't usually do that for long because all of those fees add up and they end up just going to the store to pickup their own food anyways. I know of way more people that are forced into the contact less delivery and those people don't have many other options, and those people can't just give up and go to the store. I bet people like that are some of their more persistent and regular customers.

I also don't know if there's any data that would show one way or the other which "side" are the more frequent users of Doordash and/or Uber Eats.

My personal experience is the opposite of yours though. The only people I know that use it are people 100% capable of ordering normal takeout, but choose to pay the fee to not have to pick it up themselves. The only time I've ever used a service like this was during the peak of the pandemic, when I had my weekly groceries delivered for about a month because it was the only way my local Stop & Shop was doing business.

I don't use these delivery services. Better off getting it myself than paying practically double for the meal.

As for tipping culture, it needs to end. It's the employers responsibility to pay their staff, look at them for a proper wage.

The reason people are upset by it is that there's already a big upcharge for the delivery, on top of ordering.

Like last weekend, I ordered from Shakey's Pizza through doordash. My total, was $102, so I added $20 as a tip to make it $122. If I had gone to pick it up myself, it would have been $77 (and that's with tax already added).

I can afford it, so I didn't mind paying for the convenience, but even without the tip, that is a big difference that Door Dash adds. I completely understand why people wouldn't want to tip when their order is already upcharged by more than 30%.

But I tip because I know their pay is terrible without it. And that's definitely a problem I have with the company, not the drivers.
