It's amazing how a film from 15 years ago can feel like a film from 30 years ago. There's no way that joke about the granny with the shotgun would fly today.

Which joke?

There's an old woman who wakes up to see Remy (the rat) in her kitchen and she immediately starts blasting away at him with a shotgun. The joke is basically how psycho her response is as she's more or less willing to destroy her own house to try and get rid of a rat. She continues to chase him down the street with the shotgun after he escapes through the window.

While it had been a thing since pretty much the beginning of animation, the idea of using gun violence as a source of humor is the kind of thing you wouldn't see in a modern Disney animated movie.

It's like going back to a 90s movie where kids are smoking cigarettes or cigars. Except that is actually going back 30 years. This movie is only half as old as that. It's just interesting how quickly social sensibilities change and how immediately dated certain scenes become as a result of it.
