I don't know how my mother did it. Work full time then come home and cook for the whole family. When I get off of work, the last thing that I want to do is cook. And when I do cook on work days it is something unhealthy and fast.

Isn't it basically just taking like five ingredients and throwing it into a boiling pot?

If you set aside chicken breast fillet you can stir fry that bad boy up in like 10 minutes. Season it and put in the fridge before work, come back and cook it when you get back, plus those 9 hours will really make the raw chicken absorb the seasoning

i wouldn't say it's "hard", as in "difficult", but it can be time consuming and definitely not something i really want to do after a long day of work. that's why i cook like two meals each week, one for lunch and one for dinner. i keep 2-3 portions in the fridge and freeze the rest, then take something out of the freezer and thaw it to fill in the gaps for the week.

Is stir fry healthy? I would think the rice would be bad for you.

Depends on what you want and how much effort.

If i want burgers, i can just form some ground beef and do some smash burgers with some cheese and call it a meal.
If i wanted more effort i could chop up some toppings and bacon and whatever.

I try to limit my cooking to easy stuff if its just for me. Also try to limit anything that involves too much prep unless i have time to do it. I do like doing instant pot stuff where i can sear big biece of meat in the pots and put everything else in and just set it and forget it for an hour or whatever

Depends on what you wanna eat
You can make a very easy to make quesadilla (cheese of your choice and tortilla) like in five minutes with very minimal effort...

Or you could makes some steak and some eggs which takes more time to make, but overall feels like a better meal.

It's just how much effort you're willing put in, and if you're willing to put up with cleaning the dishes

I think it's more of a l more, cooking is a learned kinda thing? Cooking can be hard if you have no idea what you're doing and suddenly you need to properly cut up chicken breat, spice it, Finley slice and mince some stuff and so on if you don't already know how.

It became more enjoyable as I got better at it over time. When you devote a bit of time into something and it winds up turning out really damn good, it kind of drives you to see what else you can make really good that tastes close to restaurant stuff.

The only thing that I can really do that with is my Shrimp fried rice. However as of late I have not been able to get it right. I don't know if it is because I am using new pans or something. But after missing up two times. I just lost to heart, to try that.

I do, do a mean waffle fry and Hash Browns. Like make them from Potatoes to food.

Accidentally working for a fine dining restaurant without any prior experience is something that most people don't have to deal with. When you start learning how to cook your skills, equipment, and available ingredients build upon themselves and make it easier to take on those challenging tasks. You may not know how to finely mince an onion properly today, but you've been chopping onions so much you start learning how to make those knife cuts appear closer and closer together, then you get more confidence in holding that onion still, then you eventually start noticing that you don't need to mash the knife down to cut but a nice rocking motion does the job just fine. Then bam, you've minced an onion just fine without even really trying to.

I don't know how my mother did it for so long. Go to work at 7 get home at 4 (blue collar physical job at that), then cook dinner for 5 people night after night for like 20 years straight. My father was useless in the kitchen so it was just her.

As I went on my own I actually found that the more difficult thing is continually planning the meals for the week without repeating the same things over and over. By the time she got to her 50s she was clearly burned out.

Basic cooking is easy. People only think it's hard because they don't like the time involved or the clean up.

I like cooking, if the kids are old enough to clean up it would be fine. I had an ex I lived with for 9 years, she couldnt cook worth a damn but was always happy to clean up the mess if I did all the cooking.

That worked out just fine for me.

My trouble with cooking is I don't know how to not be extra about it.

Like I get in at 8pm and then I make dinner and I still want to go all instagram food hoe on it, instead of just throwing together some easy nutrition.
