This. The relaunch was the pet project of a Comcast executive's son and everything started falling apart literally right during its launch stream.

I wouldn't be surprised if the old rumors about their cable TV numbers being less than 10-20K in major markets end up being true.

Had they jumped on the YouTube and Twitch/Justin.tv train back in the day they probably would have never had to shut down altogether to begin with.

I put attack of the show on in the background sometimes, but never really cared for Xplay even in the old days.

G4 was never going to be successful. It wasn't even successful back then even with the audience it had while filling a niche place in media that is now completely saturated with streaming and content creation. It has nothing to do with being "woke".

i have no clue what channel it's on or if i even have the channel. i subbed to a few of your youtube channels when they first started posting on their again and honestly forgot they were were also doing a tv revival. they're better off just keeping it as a youtube show and maybe try to get a show or two on like spike tv(oh guess they changed that to paramount network now) or something. they never had enough material to do a full channel.

Only cared for Sessler's reviews and that's it.

Hope he still finds time to keep his following going.

Sounds like it was doomed to fail sooner rather than later anyways if all it takes to sink the channel is a host saying that the sexism is gross. Or are we gonna pretend like if Frosk didn't say anything then then it was never gonna be said at all? Because before the channel failed the first time the female hosts were saying the same exact thing back then too, only now the gross sexism is tolerated even less now than it was back then.

They got some attention when they came back and then lost it almost immediately because people remembered that nobody actually needs something like G4TV in 2022.

That rant was literally the only other time it gained any attention until now. The next time it will gain attention is when they close down for the last time.

There was a reason it failed back then. And the operation seemed too big vs potential revenue. And the personalities werent that great.

I think most people already have their go to YT channels for previews and reviews and theres also the big channels lile IGN, gamespot...etc.

What a lot of people don't realize is when the original channel began showing Cops and Cheaters reruns, they actually had their highest viewership in the company's history. The demographic for cable for over a decade has been older people who basically just leave the TV on all day, and it brought in that audience, whereas the demographic they wanted just watched stuff on YT. But the ratings still started faltering after some time then.

They tried to focus on that more now, but it was doomed from the start because the format of streaming is oversaturated on top of having an out of date cable model.

Kevin Pereira is the GOAT of G4. I still watch Attack of the Show every week.

The only reason G4's revival had the initial boost of viewers was because they collaborated with a bunch of big streamers and did that event, but after that they didn't retain much of the viewers. There's just not enough people that are interested in what G4 has to offer.

That rant did not help them, wont say it was the fatal strike but it drove much of the audience away.

Its not like they were going to ever reach the same amount of viewers as the early 2000s but they could have survived for a little while.

They only have themselves to blame, the bed they made is being laid in now.

In that twitch leak, Critical Role was shown to have made ten million dollars from subs and ad revenue in the two years it revealed. That's not counting sponsorships, merchandise, or the fact that their main show took a four-month hiatus for covid, so be sure they make way more than that. Even they only employ forty people.

I mean G4 nostalgia is good and all but we knew this was coming. Really no place for it in the day of Twitch and YouTube being as big as they are now.

I remember reading a comment from one of the people upset about that rant and they said they miss Olivia Munn because unlike Frosk, Munn actually cares about video games and gaming culture.
That told me everything I need to know about people who always bitches about that rant.

Gaming focused channels and shows are something that is unable to be done well in 2022. No wonder why they're having issues.

It's gotten to the point where a handful of people can do what g4 does better out a basement, and without fucking up the money and attacking their niche audience. I wish this never happened because i didn't wanna know sessler was a madman wishing death on his family members if they didn't share his political ideologies. This isn't the memory i wanted from a show that gave me the yu gi oh gang.
