So my wife sent me this link and my first thought was, oh someone picked up the TSR brand and they are trying to do something with a WotC IP...which is true but it is so much worse than that.

I'm not going to post the specific here because it would get modded almost immediately but the reason WotC cited for the harm was "Plaintiff/Counterclaim Defendants to-be-released Star Frontiers New Genesis game contains despicable content including blatantly racist and transphobic content." and they were not exaggerating.

There are three TSRs currently, the actual old TSR that still publishes stuff, the TSR made by gygax's son where it just sorta farts around, and then the garbage TSR.

gaming in general is a male thing... Everybody whos tried to design a game to interest a large female audience has failed. And I think that has to do with the different thinking processes of men and women.

As I have often said, I am a biological determinist, and there is no question that male and female brains are different. It is apparent to me that by and large females do not derive the same inner satisfaction from playing games as a hobby that males do. It isn't that females can't play games well, it is just that it isn't a compelling activity to them as is the case for males.

That second quote is from 2004. 2004! My mother plays DnD, has done so since the first edition, and painted miniatures and props. Gygax, like many casual bigots, projects his own personal experiences with a handful of women onto every single woman in existence, apparently forgetting that women are individual human beings impacted by their environment. "Biological determinist." What a clown.

You know why women didn't play DnD much? Because they don't enjoy RPing murdering prostitutes and raping merchants that don't give the party a discount, or putting up with their DMs/fellow players insisting on hooking their character up with someone, etc, etc. Just one or two shitty sessions like that can kill a hobby for a person, especially one that requires multiple people to participate in. It's the same reason women gamers avoid using mics and shit during online multiplayer games. It has nothing to do with whether or not the games at their core appeal.

Edit: As an aside, the more I look into it the worse it gets, lol. Women DnD players have reviled Gygax since the 70s for this very reason, to the point where this:

I am intrigued by its system, seems pretty straightforward once you have it down, leaves the exact setting up to the GM so you can end up in a wide variety of situations. Plenty of interesting classes (Jobs?//) to choose from.

I always thought it would work for a Knight of the Word inspired game.

What the hell sort of games were you in.
If not, are you just looking up shitty games and expecting that to be true everywhere? I mean, I guess you can't do anything if someone awful exists elsewhere.

Most RPG groups I've been in have been half women, and it's been totally fine and uninteresting about that.

I can't see an issue with the quotes you provided. Men and Women's brains do work differently and gaming is generally a male dominated hobby. Just because something is generally true doesn't mean there aren't exceptions. He did not say women were incapable of playing the game.
