I bought a mattress today. It was like $1200 - original plan was to get a budget $800 one but this one was half price and I could feel the difference.

Even with the budget mattress, the plan was to get the mattress first and have a floor bed before I got myself a frame. The soonest I'll consider buying a bedframe is next payday, which is two Mondays away. But that doesn't mean I can't start shopping around for one.

The most I would pay for a bedframe is like $600, and even that's stretching it. The one thing I don't want are those bed bases with wheels on the bottom and a headboard you attach to it - I want a sturdy bedframe that sits on the ground and doesn't move. Once I put this bedframe together, I want it to stay put.

Get a captains bed

Keep sleeping as is

You can get a frame that's just rails for cheap. It's when you go for a four post or sleigh that runs up the price. If you're putting the head of your mattress against a wall you don't really need anything other than the rails. Your choice.

I have a four post with a headboard - the only added benefit is I can put my hat on the posts
