I had no idea what they were saying, and I thought it was done that way on purpose. I went for years thinking the Director just left a giant chunk of the movie indecipherable for the sake of art.

To this day I dislike that entire sequence.

Something similar happened to me with a horror movie on Netflix. VHS 2 has a part all in Spanish and their subs failed in that scene.

Yes! Youre right! And much like Peter, I stopped watching! Thats why that family guy joke always struck me so funny. It wasnt until years later that I rewatched the movie, saw that the sequence was subbed, and was able to get through it.

If Im being totally honest, I still wonder if theres two versions floating around, one that subs that sequence, and one that leaves it unsubbed. Idk, Ive just never had a movie do that before. So freaking weird.

Thats wild. Yeah it really takes you out of the story.

And later Lost in Translation actually did the thing you're talking about lol

It wasn't subtitled?
I can understand some Italian, and I can read it sometimes, but ya, I can't suss out the Restaurant scene.

I do love the Apollonia scene.

The Paris Je T'aime Blu-ray only has English subtitles for the hard of hearing so I turned them off because i don't need (door opens) in the subtitles. I probably got halfway through the movie before realizing I was supposed to understand what was going on.

Yes, the restaurant is unsubbed, the Italy sequence (to the best of my knowledge) is meant to be subbed.
