That sounds like a nightmare for teachers. You can't just flip a switch and convert any arbitrary full day's curriculum into online classes, and if you planned a test you're just completely fucked for the day.

I remember barely getting any snow days when I was going to school. I am also a resident of NYC. Think I went all through middle school and high school without a single show day. Elementary school was probably like 4 total for the 5 years?

Will teachers be expected to bring supplies home during the winter in case of snow days?

Have they supplied every child with internet and computers, or is this just fucking over attendance for poor kids?

Snow days were always nice little breaks when they happened. Gave you a chance to just be a kid and playin the snow, or just be able to relax during the week for once. It was also nice when you got extra time to do your homework.

It seems stupid to do away with them since the weather may impact your internet connection and poorer families will be screwed.

What a terrible idea.

Probably need two or three debacles before the idea is abandoned.

We never got snow days even though the winter here is way more brutal than any part of the US with the exception of Alaska.

That's better than sudden "online snow day!" where half the teachers are unprepared, and half the students don't log in for various reasons.

It's just going to be a wasted day of meaningless busywork that won't "count" anyway, assuming the teachers could arsed to do even that.
