Parents are that way. My cousin got off meth and started working at a grocery store for several years and all they could say was "that's not a real job! That's a pud job! I work for a living!"

If your job has you at a desk the majority of the day and you're not either drafting some sort of plan (think engineering) or programming your job is the equivalent to the air in a bag of chips.

Mine does pay well but unfortunately it comes with the demeaning thankless part regardless.

Real jobs to these people are jobs where you are making six figures and are able to live on that job, buy a car, buy a house, support a family and so on, if your job does not afford you those things it is not a real job, that comes from my experience and my obversions of people throughout my life, that being said, my job is being a picker in a warehouse from 6am to 5ish pm 4 days out of the week It's not all their faults tho, our society has beaten it into us that jobs like these are for failures and lazy or poor educated people and so people repeat it, especially people who don't work those jobs why wouldn't they repeat it, as messed up up as it is people like feeling superior to others, people like feeling their success while watching others wallow in failure or inferiority, not all of them of course, but a good chunk of them do and some will actually make it a life goal to make society create more people to look down on because they can only feel something akin to happiness and pleasure knowing not only are they successful but others are failures and it's their own faults because they were not smart enough, driven enough, determined enough to reach that level.

From the moments of our births to the day we die we are competing, competing and competing wither we like it or not and such a thing can really damage a mind depending on how it's raised to handle success and failure.

I work in a warehouse, but I get annoyed whenever I hear someone tell someone who works retail/fastfood to "work at a warehouse, that's a REAL job!" Basically those people believe if a job isn't manual labor, it isn't a real job >~> those people suck.

My grandmother was this way. Back when I worked at an amusement park cleaning up, she didn't consider it a real job. Now that I think of it, a lot of what people are saying in this thread fit the elder members of my family to a tee. None of them would consider fast food service a real job (but complain if the service wasn't up to their standards) and blamed foreigners for everything. Is this mainly an old people thing?

Oh, are you those guys in the back chained to your computers all day who look as tired as we pickers and shipping loaders do during breaks? I like your chairs but I don't envy your position, through i do sometimes when I'm mentally beat to shit due to the high call volume on the lane where we're basically picking dozens and dozens of items as fast as we can, as neat as we can under a hot light. Or are you location control, the people who have to come up to our lanes to fix faulty scanner and lights sometimes?

While nowhere near as physically demanding as your job is (which I have nothing but respect for the people who manage to do it 40+ hours a week) I am on my feet my entire shift. I refurbish cable boxes (well most of the time it's mostly just getting them reset back to factory) and I have to hit a certain amount of boxes refurbished per hour so I also have to work relatively quickly.

Ah, you have productivity hanging around your butt too, isn't it annoying? every single action you take comes back to that productivity to the point you feel like even taking a second to scratch your nose itch may or may not be worth the productivity hit. I know one thing for sure, I'd rather die than ever go work for Amazon no matter what anyone tells me, those news stories didn't just scare me off from ever considering the fact that so little has happened to amazon despite those stories definitely put them on my Never ever list just like working gas stations

Yup, I've heard so many horror stories about working at Amazon that I'd rather go homeless than work for them. My physical/mental health >>>>> whatever money I could make working in an Amazon warehouse.

I look at them the same way I see Cat in the Hat as a Book: meets all the requirements, but you should get beyond it at some point and be embarrassed if you don't. If you got through college and can't get beyond, or even handle well, a job that has limited / removed the basic math for you and just asks for customer service, you probably don't have the right to be as arrogant about things as you are. Worse is I think you're taking a job from a disabled person or elderly person that can't work more strenuous jobs.
