The funny thing is that these aren't even socialist policies to most of the developed world. They're just common fucking sense things that any decent country would do.

But in the good ol' U.S., we're used to begging for the bare minimum while our government seems committed to doing as little for its citizens as possible

anyway probably his shift is as much to do with passing a reconciliation bill--something nobody thought was actually going to happen at all--as the loan forgiveness

but yes it should not be surprising that doing things results in your base being happy results in more popularity

if you literally cannot please the opposition no matter what, the best way to raise your popularity is to serve your base, so the outcome is as expected

The republicans have reached the point where they will call anything other than workers living in company housing and shopping at a company store socialism, so I don't particularly give a fuck about what they have to say.

Goes to show you how reliable polls are, I guess.

For what it's worth, I do believe I heard that people don't actually understand the wording of healthcare positions and when rather than just polling people if they support x or y or b, but rather explain to them what each position does, there's a notable shift from Bernie to Biden et al regarding healthcare support.

But I can't remember the source of that and ultimately even if it's bogus, I guess we're left with polls being a bad indicator of support.

I don't think that statement is incorrect, but it's kinda of a silly conclusion here. It's not like people didn't like Biden for his policy, just that legislative action was at a stand still. Because the public doesn't really care about governmental process, and activists like to pretend like it doesn't exist, he was a "do nothing" president, until things started to pass and that changed.

Those people either dont understand how government works or dont know what theyre talking about.

They would have probably insisted he attack Sinema and Manchin and not get anything for it instead of being cool and passing the IRA and forgiving student loans.
