transience 08/27/22 9:23:10 AM #1:	there's another thread on the dual kickstarter, but it didn't feel right without me creating a thread on the new Shadow Hearts game. I mean just look at this thing. I've been staring at this picture for 24 hours now and keep coming back to it. https://i.imgur.com/Vo0gAdb.jpeg Fusion, the SH2 combo meter, SP, it's all there. here's the PR for it. we'll see more in a couple days when the kickstarter launches. The easy to learn, difficult to master Psycho Sigil battle system combines traditional turn-based JRPG strategy with twitch-trigger reaction time in order to maximize the potential of attacks, keeping players on their toes with every encounter. Players can embrace the darkness within by using *Fusion* to call upon the abyss and fight fire with fire, harnessing the power of the darkness to hurl demons back from whence they came. Interactions with the demonic will affect the heroes *Sanity Points. If players lose too many Sanity Points, their allies will succumb to madness, gaining strength and losing composure. However, that boost in power might be just what is needed to turn the tide in battle. Returning to the helm as composer is* *Hirota Yoshitaka* (of Shadow Hearts and Shadow Hearts: Covenant fame) to inject a sense of dread and eerie unease befitting of the atmosphere. And accompanying him is Akari Kaida of Breath of Fire 3, infusing a heavy dose of jazz into the Roaring Twenties setting. *This is my second chance. Chances to make another game like this are rare, so please give me your support, says lead game designer, Matsuzo Machida.* With direction from Matsuzo Machida, character design by Miyako Kato and music and sound composed by Yoshitaka Hirota and Akari Kaida, Penny Blood promises to sink its claws into players as it revives the darker side of Japanese RPGs. hell yeah. (I know it's Penny Blood, but like....come one, you know that was the wrong call) I don't know the backend talent distribution or decisions that lead to Shadow Hearts' decline after 2 or Wild Arms' decline after 3, so I can't say for sure what names one should get excited about and which I shouldn't, but I'm willing to give it a shot either way. I'm surprised there's an overwhelming majority for people getting both. The reason I want to do both is mostly that I just really like jrpgs, and even though I never tried Shadow Hearts it seems pretty popular. Eiyuden Chronicles seems like the closest analogue, being another JRPG revival, and it made around $1.4 million on its first day and ended up at over $4 million by the end of 30 days. Also how the fuck did a Suikoden revival do so well, it's the 3rd-most popular video game kickstarter of all time. If AF+PB reaches around $700,000 by the end of its first day (which is looking easily doable), that means by the end of 30 days it should have over $2 million. That's really good. Suikoden II has been celebrated as one of the top PS1 JRPGs by critics and fans for like 20 years now and it's even available on PSN. Its audience might not have sufficiently been there for it in 1999 or even for V in 2006 but I gotta assume that's had some beneficial effect.
