most people I know blow at caring for pots and pans. don't you dare put a metal utensil in those. burn something onto it? you've done it wrong. and you can clean it without fucking it. but most people just fuck it.

dude i have an 80+ year old cast iron skillet that he lets SOAK in water or stay wet after washing

he "washes" dishes and puts them in the second half of the sink to get wet and blasted with water until he slowly picks through what he needs to use when he needs to use it

and it's ALL OF MY STUFF. i bought 95% of everything in this house we used. so he's just damaging all my property it's driving me insane. those pots and pans are only a little over 2 years old.

I don't usually cook at my house anyways. My roommate keeps all the dishes dirty and greasy. The kitchen is always trashed and dirty. I haven't even cooked in a month. The last time I did was when he was on vacation and I was able to keep the kitchen clean for the two weeks he was gone.

When they got back his gf told him that I keep the house cleaner than he does

Is he living there still for any particular reason other he feels entitled to be there, Im spotty on the lore. If I remember you said he has a fianc he could potentially live with but just doesnt because he refuses to move out. Sounds like hes trying to be as big of a dick as possible before he leaves.

Wouldnt be surprised if he tried fuck with something like appliances or the plumbing before he leaves. You should document all the property hes damaged.

Um apparently he can't live with her because she lives in STUDENT HOUSING with 2 other young women. Idk how old this chick is but I sadly feel she's like almost a decade younger than him. I feel bad for her.

And I'm not sure why he stays here. He makes over $60k a year with zero debt at all to his name and he acts like he can't afford an apartment on his own. He keeps saying how last year we agreed to January 2023 because I thought I couldn't refinance the house into my name til then. I've asked him numerous times if he would leave early and he says no every time. I couldn't just evict him because he's an established resident so I just put him on a fucking lease til December 31st. I'm just so fucking over it.

You may just be an internet friend but I still hate to hear that your living in a situation you hate for another 3+ months. Have you offered to help with moving costs if he leaves early? You shouldn't have to of course, but maybe that would motivate him. I just isn't worth it to live with someone you don't like that long.

IF you do have to live with him, instead of throwing away the pans, I would just give them to him and have nothign to do with them again. Again, that sucks, but it's better to avoid any antagonistic moves till he is actually gone at least.

I literally refuse to live with anyone who doesn't want me to live with them or that I don't like. It's just not worth the stress, when we already have so much stress in our lives. Dude is just making your life miserable cause he isa jerk, if he makes 60k+ there is no reason at all for him to stay there, and if his gf/fiance is living at a dorm, he could get a place for both of them, and should want to. Dude seems really freaking weird.

Lol there is no excuse for not being able to look after pots and pans. Its so easy. And I hate when people leave pots to soak cause theyre too lazy to wash shit. And even then dont do a good job and it still feels greasy after being washed.

My gf is so bad for this it pissed me off

Nope it's a you thing. It takes 5 minutes to learn how to properly use/care for pots and pans. Invest the time.

Fortunately, cast iron pans can take a ton of abuse before getting so bad that they actually can't be brought back.

Unfortunately, having to restore them every two weeks because some idiot struggles to understand the words "don't leave water in it" is a massive pain in the ass and might qualify as valid justification for using said idiot's skull to demonstrate the hardness of cast iron.

Eeyup. Don't use metal on teflon pans (ceramic non-stick ones are more durable, but still try to avoid it), use an appropriate amount of oil to prevent whatever sticking you can, and don't make a habit of burning stuff. That's 99% of what you need to know; calling it a "guy thing" doesn't excuse not taking the time to learn that.

Particularly tenacious burnt-on stuff can usually be dislodged by deglazing it (pour a small amount of water into a hot pan around it, then scrape it off as the rapidly-boiling water loosens it) or boiling soapy water in the pan while scraping at it. It may also take some soaking. Steel wool should never be used on anything finished (non-stick, enamelled, etc.), but it's okay for harder materials (mostly stainless steel).

Im not a fan of teflon pans because inevitably someone screws them up by using metal or by cleaning with rough sponges

my favorite thing to use is either just stainless steel or ceramic nonstick
