Every so often it pops up on the news where an officer or someone touched the stuff and was hospitalized or something. If this stuff is so dangerous that just touching it is a hazard then how the hell do people actually take it?

Its dangerous because such a small amount can cause an overdose, slow your breathing down to the point where you just die

had a roommate OD and die from it earlier this year

It needs to activate in your system, like through injection or ingestion, simple contact is unlikely to cause a reaction beyond the psychosomatic with many hospitalizations from first responders actually resulting from panic attacks resulting from believing the misinformation they have been giving the public to hype up an already extremely dangerous drug.

the officers touching it and ODing is bullshit fearmongering. As someone who has done multiple opiates, including fentanyl, youd generally have to inject it to reach an OD, though with fentanyl you could probably get there by smoking too

Pretty sure you can by swallowing it too. I'm sure most people get it in pill form.

There are tons of medications that are hazardous to touch in the wrong concentrations or if you're not the intended patient. It's part of why you'll hear dick pill commercials or hair regrowth commercials tend to say something like "Under no circumstances should pregnant women handle this".

Most medicine is essentially poison if used improperly. And plenty of poisons can be used medicinally if taken correctly.

Strychnine was occasionally used as a performance enhancing drug, most notably by Thomas Hicks in the 1904 Olympic marathon. He won the race, but collapsed shortly after crossing the finish line. He'd received 2 doses of about 1 mg; another dose would have likely been fatal. Under current rules he'd have been disqualified as it has since been forbidden by Olympic rules.

Physostigmine is an extremely dangerous toxin derived from the Calabar bean. It is a cholinesterase inhibitor, which means it basically acts like nerve gas. It was originally used as an ordeal poison; a person accused of a crime would be forced to eat one of the beans and if they survived, they were innocent. Now it's used to treat glaucoma, and it's an antidote for atropine poisoning.

Atropine is an anticholinergic derived from belladonna, also known as deadly nightshade. It's used to treat bradycardia, and as an antidote to nerve agents and organophosphate pesticides. It's an antidote for physostigmine poisoning.

oh yeah, thats definitely true. I dont know why I forgot about that when the only way, aside from one time, that Ive ever consumed opiates has been ingesting.

I dont need to comment on the video as that has been addressed above, but why are you assuming my opiate use has been illegal? Lots of opiates, including fentanyl, can be prescribed for chronic pain conditions or acute temporary pain. A lot of opiate addictions begin with a doctors prescription. And to be clear, Ive never been addicted to opiates of any form, but I have experience taking them.
