I'm participating in my first league in like 5 years and I was hoping to have a place to talk about it. You guys should talk about your leagues and teams here as well. I'm not going to promise advice will be given in this topic because it certainly wouldn't be coming from me, but we can certainly try and help each other out. At the very least we are in the most fun part of the season with all the drafts being held, so it'll be fun to see all the teams we've assembled. I'll post mine in the next post and you all should do the same. --- snowpork azuarc is OP. ... Copied to Clipboard!

My league is a 14-team Half PPR league with a bunch of coworkers. There's a $50 buy-in as well, so there's money to be made at the end of the season. Top 7 teams make the playoffs. My team (drafted at #4): QB: Derek Carr (LV) RB: Christian McCaffrey (CAR) RB: James Conner (ARI) WR: Mike Evans (TB) WR: Brandin Cooks (HOU) TE: Irv Smith Jr. (MIN) FLEX: Juju Smith-Schuster K: Dustin Hopkins (LAC) DST: Cleveland Browns DST BN: AJ Dillon (GB) BN: Michael Thomas (NO) BN: Kenneth Gainwell (PHI) BN: Khalil Herbert (CHI) BN: George Pickens (PIT) BN: Evan Ingram (JAX) Things at my draft went off the rails a bit. One guy took TEs with his first two picks (Andrews and Kittle) and a number of QBs went in the first three rounds. There's was also an insane run on TEs in like the 5/6 round that happened between my picks. Because of this I feel pretty comfortable with my team since I didn't feel like I was settling with anyone. Only reach is probably Juju Smith-Schuster in the 5th round but with how unpredictable things were (and where he was placed on the rankings sheets that were handed out), I wanted to scoop him up because I have high hopes for him in the Kansas City offense. Michael Thomas could be a coup as well if he's healthy and motivated. I'm not going to start the season with a backup QB as I wait to see how my upside bench players start out before dropping one eventually. I have my eyes on Jameis Winston. --- snowpork azuarc is OP. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Speaking of Derek Carr, I drafted yesterday in a new league where I don't know a lot of the people, and a guy took Carr in the first round. I don't know if he's brand new to this, lost a bet, or was trying to be funny but that was a shocker. --- All hail the coming of the Destroyer - the Slayer's time...is now. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Probably a Raiders fan? Fandom does crazy things to people. My draft featured a Falcons fan, a couple Vikings fan, a couple Bears fans, a Bills fan, a Patriots fan and a large number of Iowa Hawkeye fans (we work at the University). Here are some of the imo bizarre picks that I can remember: --Cordarrelle Patterson by the Falcons fan in the third round (funnily enough the guy who drafted him drafted TEs with his first two picks and neither of them were Pitts (Andrews and Kittle)). This guy had numerous other outlandish picks and I love him for it. --Josh Allen went #7 overall (but not picked by the Bills fan) --Ihmir Smith-Marsette was drafted by a Vikings/Hawkeyes fan (last year the guy drafted ISM in like the 8th round and also drafted Brandon Smith--another Hawkeye WR that got drafted that year) --The Patriots fan (who had the #1 overall pick) took Tom Brady in the 5th round and I think Gabriel Davis in the 2/3 turn (he tries to be buddy-buddy with the Bills fan) --Hockeson and Kmet got taken by the same Bears/Hawkeye fan fairly early, I think rounds 5 and 7. --DeShaun Watson was drafted by a guy who was fully aware of the suspension. That's what I can remember off the top of my head. There's probably more but the rosters haven't been loaded yet. --- snowpork azuarc is OP. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I've seen a lot of advertising for "Best Ball" leagues and I feel like that defeats a lot of the purpose of fantasy football. I love the idea of not having to agonize over my starting lineup, but I feel like it would make everything hollow and easy to lose interest. I like Best Ball A LOT for several reasons: 1) Not needing to interact with it on a regular basis allows you to enter into a lot more of these leagues 2) some people love drafting but find the day to day handling to be cumbersome 3) Inactive owners can be more dangerous; I don't necessarily see this as a negative- inactive owners can ruin leagues 4) Creates different strategies (ie "Desean Jackson" types who have a tendency to have 14 bad games and 3 massive games become viable to draft, third down pass catching specialist RBs now have more value because you get their big games, and this opens up your roster construction options) I'm planning on running a "Best Ball, with transactions" league just to see how that would further change strategy ... When I first emigrated to the states and started playing fantasy football I was absolutely dumbfounded by the H2H setup and the very realistic possibility of the best team / highest scoring team not winning the league. I had played the English version of fantasy football for 10+ years prior and those are always total points for the season as a whole wins. I understand why H2H is preferred here as it's definitely more engaging during the season but it is frustrating when the best team doesn't win. My first few years playing here I almost gave it up as I top scored for the league 3 years running without winning. This included an undefeated regular season into a first round playoff loss to a lucky loser because my regular opponent didn't pay his dues. If I had received a bye or gotten the normal opponent, I'd have gone undefeated for the year so was understandably salty. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I had played the English version of fantasy football for 10+ years prior and those are always total points for the season as a whole wins. I've tried Fantasy Premier League for the past few years and it's been so hard for me to stay engaged. A large part of that is definitely my lack of awareness of teams and players in the Premier League as a whole, but another part is how limiting the transfer system feels and how arbitrary (to me) the costs feel. I have trouble predicting anything that's going to happen and I just have to hope I secured a strong enough lineup at the start because once I have to start making moves I'm at a complete loss of the best way to do it. --- snowpork azuarc is OP. ... I guess I misheard what my league's rules were because it's full PPR and also you get .1 point for every rushing/receiving yard and .04 for every passing yard. There's a lot of points to be had. I don't think it would've changed my draft strategy all THAT much, but maybe I would've gone for a WR over a second RB in the 2nd round. --- snowpork azuarc is OP. ... Copied to Clipboard!
