Its getting so bad now. Wondering if they will ever do anything to fix it or just let it become worse than a flea market.

I mean, why are you buying flash drives in the first place? They have basically zero purpose anymore except if you need a drive to install linux with.

I looked them up and the seller names were all chinese, which is where all the low quality knock offs come from. Basically those pictures are "generic" flash drives which don't actually have 2 tb of storage, they just continually rewrite data on about 30-40 gb of actual storage space. So it's fraud so Amazon should be required to deal with it?

My computer doesn't have an optical drive so flash drive is the only option to reinstall any OS or to quickly transfer files between computers or simply to backup files.

At least with the flash drives it's pretty easy to spot the fakes. First off, they never have a brand name. Secondly, if the price is too good to be true, it probably is. You can't buy a 2 TB hard drive for less than $50 and a name brand 2 TB portable SSD starts at $190, so there's no way you're going to get a 2 TB flash drive for $25.

A smart crook would give their fake product a real-sounding name and charge just slightly less than the legit product. Anyone who knows anything about computers would be wary of a $25 Flash Drive, but I bet a lot of pros would probably fall for a $175 Storage Ninja flash drive.

Phone batteries used to have a real problem with fakes, back in the days when you could actually replace them. They'd sell "OEM" batteries, but if you ordered one they turned out to be used, water damaged, or just plain fake. Samsung used to put water detection stickers on their batteries that would change color if the phone got wet, so you could tell a replacement battery was damaged or a fake because the sticker would be missing, had changed color, or was obviously printed on an inkjet. But you could only do this after you got the product, there was no way to tell before ordering.

For transferring large files it is still easier to put it on a flash drive and physically ship it to the recipient.

The prolem is Amazon is also engaging in fraud, they will see successful products offered on their platform and then create an inhouse brand that not only undercuts the original producer, but Amazon's listing is given priority over the original producers.

It is crazy how Windows is still 15-20 years behind.
Literally just use scp.

It's not OS issues. It's sometimes just the sheer amount of data.
Sometimes at my job we get requests for all the video visits and phone calls(with notes that investigators or officers may have happened to attached to those records) of inmates that been in jail for decades. Those audio and video files add up and there's been cases where we've had to send out multiple external SSDs for one inmate.
