My mother and stepdad are both racist as fuck. Stepdad especially. They're both Trumpers. He's always yelling out the n-word along with other slurs mixed in with lots of cursing. My mother enables him by not telling his dumbass to shut up so I'm saying she's racist by extension. Good thing I haven't had any contact with them since last December and I'm perfectly happy without them.

Dad is slightly racist. Dad grew up in the civil rights era with a super conservative father (who he hated btw, and so do the rest of us, we're all glad he died painfully), and a bit of that rubbed off on him, even though he was very rebelliously liberal during the Civil Rights era and Vietnam. Mom never has a bad word to say about people, except Republicans.

Pretty much everyone is racialized and has bias because of this but some people think it's acceptable, that's the big difference for me.

I don't think so. My mom's never said or done anything racist that I personally remember.

My great grandmother and great aunt were definitely at least a little racist, but they left the house so seldomly during my lifetime that there wasn't much opportunity to display it if they were more than that.

My dad has been letting some things slip out since retiring just before the pandemic. I think not being around people as much made him not used to holding his tongue.

I don't think he actually hates anyone based on skin color. He's typically just antisocial in general.

Yea. I kinda wonder if the numbers would be higher if this was asked 10-15 years ago. My parents used to voice racist views but now they stopped likely because they have seen all the celebs get cancelled over it.

So I guess the answer is a no if we are talking about 2022.

They got this weird idea that there is this acceptable level of racism that's ok, then when I get pissy about it because they're spouting racist shit in front of my kid I'm somehow the problem.

Even the NIMBY stuff of not wanting homeless shelters, affordable housing, public transit to get built which is a possible grey area gets called racist/bigoted right now. So there arent any things that come to mind.

Mother isn't hateful, but she can definitely say some ignorant things sometimes. Even when she's corrected on how offensive that is, she doesn't understand what the big deal is.
