I knew a vegan lady who said peanut butter makes you aggressive because it has rapeseed in it

I've had a bunch of vegetarian and vegan friends over the years who never made any fuss about it. But I've become a vegetarian myself in the last year, and now multiple people in real life have tried to pressure me to eat meat again.

kudos to you! i've heard about that happening and it's just so strange that those folks care what you eat. my guess is that the mere existence of a lifestyle different than their own is a threat to them

I dont preach at friends/family/strangers unless they insist on explanations and arent satisfied with the usual bland 'animal warfare' reason. Very few ask or make mention of it outside the necessary dietary restriction with food though.

People online always act like vegans are so preachy with their lifestyles onto others unprovoked, you even see people here complain about them but I have never had that experience with them before. I have had health freaks try hard to shame me for eating process food, though.

Hahaha. Guilty. Ive read 10 books about nutrition in a year. When you you realize the full extent of damage that all that extra sugar does to your body you cant help but try to help people make better decisions.

But Ive reached a happy medium of sorts. For example I dont deny sodas to my kid, but I do monitor their level of consumption.

I get this a lot with relatively new acquaintances, who often don't learn I'm a vegetarian until I'm out at lunch/dinner with them. For the most part they are never like aggressive, it's just a lot of the exact same "jokes" that they think are so original, despite my having heard them a million times.

When the aggressive part happens is when they ask "why" you are a vegetarian and you actually give them a real reason beyond, "I just don't like the taste". You mention animal cruelty or environmental concerns and suddenly you are "preaching" to them despite them asking the question.

Yeah, I'm honestly starting to suspect that's where most of the complaining about "preachy vegans" is coming from. I've never told anyone to change their diet, but suddenly people are offended because I don't want to eat meat. \_()_/

i get this too and i have the impression it's because we tell them that something they are doing is, in our opinion, unethical.

me: "i choose to not consume meat or other animal products"
meat eater: "why?"
me: "i believe it's immoral and unethical"
meat eater: "how dare you call me immoral!"

people like to talk about what I "can't" eat
