Considering all the lawyers he's had up to this point have lost their licenses or at their reputations tarnished, he kind of earned this

Imagine throwing away your career to represent Trump.

Also, does he not pay his lawyers? I read that he has a history of not paying off his bills.

Yes, he would basically tell them that the reputation gain for defending the president was the payment. Kind of ironic in retrospect.

The article doesn't say nobody wants to defend him. It actually makes it seem like there are a lot of people who want to defend him that Trump hasn't contacted. The ones who he has contacted said there isn't enough time to work on the case because they haven't been involved from the start. The lawyers don't give a shit about lying or losing the case lmao.

Yeah, but "I represented a shitperson" and "I ended up getting disbarred because my client/case forced me to commit major ethics violations" aren't the same thing.

Trump has the distinction of being a client in both camps, and also will 100% fire you if you don't commit said violations for him. No sane lawyer would ever want to represent him.

Look what happened to those poor sods who represented Alex Jones. The poor bastards clearly had no idea what they were going to be dealing with with their client in the court room. For as huge and culty as these people's followings are, there's a reason why you'll almost never see lawyers in their little fan clubs.

Yes. Lawyers refuse to take cases all the time. Even public defenders can refuse cases.

The only obligation is that if you WANT a lawyer in a criminal trial, the state is obligated to make sure you have SOMEONE to represent you. But you probably won't like what they get, for you.
