Started on 100mg sertraline, 20mg diazepam and 80mg propranolol daily. It's been 5 days, the medication makes me feel so out of it. But the tightness in my chest and knot in the stomach have already dissipated and I feel generally better, although as said I just feel constantly out of it all the time.

Psychologist is beginning next month (they're all 5 months out).

I've known that I've had this for a good 15+ years but yeah, never done anything about it and just ignored it, but the last month something has made it feel a lot worse. Especially now that I have an 8 month old, decided to do something about it.

Hell yeah, responsible dad Trey. Hope the medication process goes smoothly, if you're feeling really spaced out they'll probably try something else or adjust the doseage.

It takes a lot to get through this, and doing this in relation to being a parent is a very noble and responsible thing to do.

Good speed brother. Its a lot to take in but Im glad your getting the help. Just be careful with the drugs, if you arent feeling good about them then say so. Doctors tend to have this one size fits all approach so being vocal is your best option.

Its been life changing for me as a person who has lived with and tried to self manage anxiety issues myself, and it can be a process finding the right medicine, but when and if it works it is like living in a different world

How long did the sertraline take to work/what does it feel like? Right now I feel like it's the valium that's really knocking me around more than anything, and the propranolol helps with the physical symptoms (shaking/sweating/jittering etc)

The adjustment periods to some of these meds can be absolutely terrible, i luckily was a rare case where setraline had a great effect very quickly, the Wellbutrin is great too but that made me feel like a fucking crackhead for the first 4 days

for me after the first week the setraline was all I was taking, and it just did WONDERS, normally they say it could take up to 6 weeks for it to be fully working, they upped me from 50 to 100 2nd visit, and added on the Wellbutrin to help with tiredness from the Zoloft and sex drive from the zoloft

Valium and the other I cant vouch for, it seems like the went for a lot for your first try, but what do I know and every single person is vastly different

Stick with it. I mirror you basically, I thought I had learned to manage my every day all day anxiety with meditationnn, controlled breathing and many things that help

and then it got worse and i finally took the steps to try meds, and I feel like a fucking idiot for not doing it a decade ago lmao

Varies with everyone, I had a little libido loss from setraline, but an additional medicine brought that back plus some as well as helps with my anxiety so that one was a double win

Im gunna stop triple posting and spamming but Im proud of you TC as someone going through the early stages of the same thing.

getting through the adjustment to meds and the wackiness is 500% worth it, from someone who was pretty adamant about not wanting to be in meds before this

So far so good but yeah apparently the Sertraline can affect it in the sense it delays finishing for men, but the offset is you're in a better mood so you want sex more? So if could be win win.

Other men get straight up ED so yeah we'll see how we go.

I did my DASS21 form yesterday and scored extremely severe depression, extremely severe anxiety and severe stress so I'll see what he says about the meds.

And yeah, I should've done this 10 years ago lol but I just ignored it and treated myself with alcohol

You should tell your doctor and see if there's any similar drugs without those side effects. But also tell him you're still happier on them than off.

Therapy is cool if you like talking to people. Just don't be shy about showing your personality if you can help it. The more open you are the better odds they might say something that resonates for you.

Well I really need the therapist to dig out what my trauma is, if any, to work out why I'm like this. I can't really talk about feelings, I don't know how to describe them. Or as I said to my wife the other week: "I don't feel, I think".

Oof, yeah. It sounds like you never really learned how to relate to your emotions and so you just kind ofdisassociated? Maybe, lol, dont listen to me.

Therapy has helped me immeasurably in my life. Justif youre not vibing with your therapist after a few sessions, dont be afraid to try a new one. Not all approaches work with all clients, and certainly some therapists arent great at their jobs.

Yeah pretty much. When things happen that should elicit an emotional response, I skip that part and go straight to focusing on fixing the problem (if it's a negative thing), and get irritated when people aren't focused on the solution.

Idk see what happens I guess. Being like this has also made me really good at my job and I am always in control of my actions which I think is a positive thing. Well, until I drink, anyway. When I drink, I can't stop, and just drink til I can't remember anything lol

Welcome to the club. I hope your meds work for you. If they don't, don't be discouraged because there are a ton of them out there and you'll need to find what works for you.
