I can't recall waking up feeling worse from a nightmare. It's strange because it was so vivid and seemingly random. I'm 30 years old and don't really have dreams this distressing very often. Also, the reaction in my body was so unsettling.

Like most dreams, the "plot line" and the logical connection of events are somewhat lost on me and it likely lasted only a few seconds.

In my dream, there was someone who had the power to infiltrate memories, thoughts, and/or dreams. They were dressed up in a suit and a short top hat. In my dream, it made sense because I was living in a sort of fantastical world where some people had powers on that level.

I'm not sure why I needed my memory/thoughts viewed but part of the reason seemed to be that we needed to jolt my memory so that we could prevent something dark from happening again. We discussed it at some length in a bar and that's when I saw what happened next. I'm not sure if it was a remote viewing situation or a memory.

The description of everything to this point was vague and there are other elements which aren't important but the point is that after that moment, my dream became a lot higher resolution and vivid.

Content warning ahead: violence

I was in a dark room resembling a dungeon prison. In front of me there was a demon that looked like a horrid gremlin with a large knife preparing to approach a small boy of a toddler's age. My stress levels peaked and I tried with all my might to stop it, screaming and pushing back, but I was failing. The child was screaming in fear and/or pain. The whole thing had the weight of some conspirational ritual that was occurring and I felt responsible for stopping it, but couldn't.

I awoke at 3am with this vision still fresh in my mind and my body felt like it was spasming in my stomach and pelvic region. I calmed down after a few seconds but that was awful. I'm going to reiterate that it felt more lifelike and detailed than most dreams.

There's a lot of media that I've viewed that could have influenced that plot line such as theThe Promised Neverland and Stranger things. There was someone else involved somehow (I can't remember how, if they were influencing what was happening) who may have been fresh in my mind because of events I've discussed with other people involving them.

The Promised Neverland and Stranger things

makes sense. I watched Promised neverland earlier this year. I was... not prepared for that one scene... I think at the end of the first episode? When it's revealed what happened to that girl. That was extremely unsettling.

Closest dream experience I can recall that would be similar to yours was one time many years ago when freddy krueger was trying to kill me and it was lucid enough for me to know I was dream and that he wasn't real. I couldn't get the upper hand but he couldn't either because I was like "well basically this is just a movie and I have some degree of control here." He did kill me but I just kinda went like "okay well I'm just a different character now" so it was like I was acting in it and just switched roles and I figured I would just keep doing that if he continued to kill me. He didn't though, and I woke up without any real resolution to the storyline of the dream. It wasn't frightening so much as frustrating, but that's par for the course for any nightmares/negative dreams I have. they're never about me being in danger. They're always about me being helpless to fully stop whatever it is that's antagonizing me, which usually means endless cycles of stalemates for the duration of the dream.

The worst nightmare Ive had that I can remember clearly to this very day is everybody else going inexplicably missing a la that one episode of SpongeBob where Bikini Bottom goes on holiday to get away from SpongeBob, only he doesnt know this and starts freaking out towards the end of the episode after unsuccessfully trying to mimic the behavior and routines of the townspeople. Anyways, unlike that episode, I never did find out where everybody disappeared off to and I eventually woke up freaking the heck out at potentially being the sole survivor of an alien invasion or the Biblical Rapture and thus was condemned to spend the remainder of my days wandering the planet hoping to find another living soul to converse with.

I once had an extremely vivid nightmare about a Red Dawn situation. It was definitely inspired by Modern Warfare 2. I was with my dad and brother in the car and we were navigating through an urban combat hellscape, with tanks, explosions, etc. Everywhere.

It was insanely detailed and realistic, and nothing was dreamlike about it. It took place in my dad's car, in our home city, on some of the roads we drove on every day. I never got hurt or anything, but that sense of dread was constant. Like..."the world as I know it is over, what do we do now?"

It felt like it went on for hours, too. It wasn't short. It wasn't jumping around. Everything felt like it was genuinely occurring. I still have vivid memories of it, and it had to have been at least ten years ago.

It took me several hours after waking up to fully calm down and realize everything was still okay.

I had a nightmare a few days ago where I saw a nuke falling from the sky nearby, and started screaming upon realizing that death was imminent

Had to check when I woke up that nothing of the sort had happened

The worst nightmare I had was of a demon posing as a little girl with a creepy unnaturally large smile and demonic features chasing me like the Link statue just appeared on that Zelda creepypasta.

The worst vivid halucination I had due to sleep paralysis was waking up on my side with a dark demonic humanoid being laying also on its side on the bed, face to face to me. It opened its mouth, letting out a loud scream and a large stream of black smoke that went into my mouth, lasted for about 10 seconds and made me feel like shit for a few hours. The smoke mouth thing was similar to demonic possession in Supernatural.

I dreamed I was starring in my own personalized rendition of Silent Hill 4: The Room recently where I couldnt leave my bedroom for any real length of time without increasingly feeling exhausted and unwell, and every time I happened to wander outside my bedroom, something had inexplicably changed despite me being the only one there in my dreamscape.

The first sleep paralysis thing I ever had actually didn't have any visual component. I was at my father's house and I woke up randomly in the middle of the night. As I drifting back to sleep (eyes were closed), I suddenly felt a presence at the foot of the bed and it swung over to the right side (to my left) and fully woke me up (although I did not open my eyes). I heard what sounded like something between an earthquake and a jurassic park T rex roar for a good 5-10 seconds. I was very confused about what had happened and I did not sleep for the rest of the night. I had been talking to my father about paranormal shit the day before, and while I don't believe in any of that, I still to this day (about 20 years later) have no real plausible idea what happened. I do remember getting up and going to tell my father in the morning and he could see on my face that something had happened and was like "you look like you've seen a ghost" and I was like "Not seen, heard... and I have no idea what it was"

Nothing in the area could have caused a noise like that. I had felt/heard a minor earthquake before but in this case I did not feel any shaking. My father lives in a rural area with no train tracks nearby, so it wasn't something like a freight train passing while I was half-asleep and disoriented. I also remember feeling hot as soon as the sound started, but that could have just been an adrenaline/fear response. I don't know. I've other sleep paralysis or weird parasomnia stuff happen since then, but nothing that intense.
