We're looking at the Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid Pinnacle model for like $60k before tax credits. Reasons:
*Cheapest new minivan we can find is around $40k, and with extra features we want (driving assist, since this will be a cross country car as well when we decide to do that), it's closer to $50k.
*The Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid gives $7500 federal credit + $2500 state credit, so it's -$10000 off whatever we pay.
*The Limited trim plus the driver assist features is like $500 less than the Pinnacle (which is fully loaded by default), and the Pinnacle comes with better stuff.

My current car is actively disintegrating, and that's the least awful option I've seen as a replacement.

I guess you don't know that the $7500 credit will effectively be going away next year... So no, I didn't buy it at the "peak".

1, with plans of having 2 total. However, my parents can't drive and we drive them around, so we do need a bigger vehicle already.

Minivans are actually cool again. Their sales have doubled and they are hard to find. I wanted a KIA Carnival but all the nice ones were gone.

I ended up getting a 2020 Durango R/T brand new for 40K.

It is paid off. But if I have a minivan, don't really need a truck... Since I bought the truck back in 2019, I've only ever hauled stuff like less than 10 times, and all of those times, a minivan could have fit all that crap I put on the truck bed.

Hey man, you do what you gotta do. I'm still firmly in the "I'll never buy a minivan" camp. I only have 1 kid, but I'm actively dating, so who knows what the future will hold lol.

I really wanted a Kia Carnival, they're so damn nice and look more like an SUV than minivan IMO

My girlfriend has one and we love it. AWD in a small package. She's only had it a year so we'll see how it goes but so far so really stinking good.

Not only are prices fucking ridiculous but you dont even get to pick what you want. You buy with the options available or you dont buy at all.

Your money though. Its already wasted. This is more for the benefit of anyone else.

You can get vehicles the way you want at MSRP, you just have to special order them from the dealer and wait several months for it to get there. And get the price down in writing so they can't surprise you when it actually arrives on the lot.

Ordered a Kia K5 GT-Line this morning, salesman said I'd probably have it in 2-4 months but sometimes they come sooner and sometimes they come later. Just his experience that most are in the 2-4 month window.

Clearly, still didn't take the hint.

I'll summarize it for you:

• Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid, the only minivan that qualifies for $7500 tax credit, will no longer qualify starting tomorrow when Biden signs the bill.
• There's a transition period where if you signed before Biden signs, the old tax laws count.

Therefore, unless I can get this minivan for $10,000 cheaper ($7500+$2500 tax) in a couple of years, which will never happen even during a normal market, it's smarter to buy now.

Besides, you also don't know what you're talking about with buying cars with dealers. I negotiated $3000 off MSRP before signing, and they're ordering exactly what I want from the manufacturer, which is fully loaded anyway (the Pinnacle trim).

Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid 2022 qualifies even if I purchased it as late as 12/31/22, but will not qualify starting 1/1/23. That means I could have had 4 more months to negotiate.... Bleh.
