Volvidon's always fun, but not the best practice for getting back to Spinning Axe. At least I got some nice KO's on Apex Rathian.

That was a pretty cool ending with the Water Strike counter, but damn was that trap too late. How nice of Nargacuga to leave the enraged state right before he jumped back down.

Yeah the higher level investigations are really great for rewards. It feels like there's maybe no reason outside of crown farming to do the regular quests.

So I only just now found out you can manually change the element of the wall beetles. I even read stuff like Hunter's Journal pages and didn't think the line about external stimuli changing their color was anything other than lore/flavor text.

I wonder what else I'm missing from the new stuff.

Made it to research level 100. The 99 quest I was just doing didn't get leveled up though. I wonder which monster I should grind to 100 first.

Oh snap one of the first level 100 quests I unlock is a 1 faint Aurora Somnacanth.

Man Basarios really sucks. Got a request for him so I'm doing a few hunts for it. Just an all-around nuisance of a monster.

Starting out event quests strong with absolute garbage.

It was like this least year too iirc. I was hoping we'd at least get a Challenge Quest even if they started off with something weak like Tetranadon was the first for Rise. But like why advertise the quests with both Metal Raths and a double Furious Rajang one without releasing one of them in the first week?

I wish he didn't have a severable tail. It's probably the most annoying partbreak in the game with how small it is. I've had bad luck with the research requests so I haven't really been doing them, but I need the coins because I want the guild card award(3000 coins spent!).

Yeah I don't think I've ever severed his tail. Fortunately I did get a Pallium in the first hunt and I don't think the tail carve has any specific drops that make it really worth going for other than that.

Its not that hard to cut with greatsword but the amount of focus you habe to put on it is beyond the border of the acceptable.

First of all I finally hit research level 80.

Second of all....fuck Afflicted Zinogre...and Diablos...and Basarios, Rathalaos, Jyuratodus, Lagombi.....

And third double fuck Basarios that Tail cut is trash. I just run bowgun and spam para/spider/shock trap etc so it stops fucking rolling/digging so I can spam slicing ammo.

Lance is really fun but I find it's hitboxes frustrating here. I didn't have this issue in generations.

Skyward Thurst is super easy to whiff or whiff most the hits but even the pokes and sweep can miss a lot these hitboxes are REALLY tight and the slightest tilt of terrain results In a shitload of whiffs for me.

As for spiral thrust I find it hard to aim the hits and to consistently perform the leaping thrust afterwards.

I find Skyward Thrust pretty easy to land for the most part. Spiral Thrust can be tough. I used to be able to land the third hit fairly consistently, but recently I've been totally unable to. I have no idea why.

I spent all my Lance time in vanilla Rise getting gud at the Spiral Thrust counter since I used it over Anchor Rage. Skyward Thrust is nice in a few matchups like the final bosses and Valstrax, but it's Spiral Thrust for me most of the time since Skyward just doesn't feel worth it unless you can consistently land most of its descending hits.

Btw what are you using for your switch skills? I know elemental Lance's are popular with Leaping Thrust off of Guard Dash right now which is very easy to aim, and doesn't have anything weird going on with monster hitboxes. Charged slaps get some nice numbers but it's so awkward if you're on the wrong side and hits like an arm or something.

Shield Charge(I rarely actually use it though. Going to integrate it more in my next hunts)
Shield Tackle
Anchor Rage/Skyward Thrust
Sheathing Retreat

You should definitely consider switching to guard dash since leaping thrust is one of the lances best attacks

Leaping thrust doesn't feel good to me. I use it and the sweep, but I mostly prefer just poking. And I really like Shield Tackle, so i just have them both on a scroll each.

Nope.

Them having updated fights and actual gear would be ideal but this is better then them simply being cut entirely.

Dude I think at one point Nargacuga tail spinned three times in a row. I don't know why he was so weird that hunt. Also targeted the wrong monster for some reason because I'm dumb, and only realized what was wrong because I knew my weapon was the wrong element.

The three hit combo that killed me wasn't even aimed at me. The whole thing was aimed at Pukei...

Any particular parts you need? I think I've got enough off of those two hunts for like two more weapons.
