I cannot believe PoE pulled off the epic upset and deservedly so. That film is a cinematic masterpiece and a national treasure.

Like I said, that would've been a worthy final. I have no idea how two of the top 10 movies in the contest ended up facing off in the first round.

Thats a pretty bad result. And I like PoE.

Huh? Akira has literally never won a single match in these contests. You must be thinking of Aladdin. Easy mistake to make, both of their titles are spelled with letters and all.

Eh, the losers there still performed better than I expected. Would Isle of Dogs have taken 10 votes against Emperor's New Groove three years ago? I seem to remember the last contest being much more one-sided. Mind Game vs. Do the Universe (a puffed-up TV special exclusive to a streaming service no one has) is still the biggest L so far.

I must be confusing it with something then. The movie that Spirited Away beat to make the finals that one year. Or maybe the movie it beat in the finals? I forget. Thought it was Akira.

Whisper finally wins a match. To add to what Place said during the match, when I watched it, it spoke to me in such a way; partly because I've been writing a novel for 3 years in my spare time.

It was such a delight and makes me strangely nostalgic for mid 90s Tokyo.... something I never experienced.

I am absolutely amazed that Only Yesterday has fans at all, let alone that many. Maybe I really do need to rewatch it at a certain stage in my life to appreciate it!

Also I would've voted Angel's Egg over either movie in the second match there. Really not a fan of those. One makes me angry and the other just makes me sad, and neither in the entertaining kind of way.

Only Yesterday has had an extremely easy path in the first two rounds, getting a boost as a Ghibli film against two movies that either arent cared about, or even might get anti-voted.

Wolf Children is my second favorite movie by that director after TGWLTT ha hahaha but I've never seen It's Such a Beautiful Day* and as a general rule unless I feel very strongly about the one I know I won't antivote the one I don't

Yeah I almost voted Wolf Children which probably would have been my vote even if I'd seen both. Wolf Children pretty great. I'm only voting though if I've seen both, really REALLY love one of the movies, or have some reason to reasonably expect I wouldn't like the opponent despite not seeing it.
