Poor people know what its like to not have money, so they splurge sometimes knowing they can live plenty fine with little to no money. Rich people are terrified of having no money so theyre cheap with some stuff.

Most of the casual cheap looking clothes that the (modest amount of) rich people I know are in fact not really cheap. They just have shitty taste in expensive clothes.

Most poor people in 1st world countries are poor due to lack of financial education and lack of impulse control.

Rich people become rich by minimizing spending.

Hence why most rich-looking people tend to be broke.

While exaggerated, that's pretty much it. People without money spend it on luxuries they don't need. I've known people making less than me with a new cellphone, big TV, daily take out, debt for a big vacation, place bigger than they can afford, etc.

Some of those are addictions that if you don't fall into, you can save a bundle. Keep doing it, you get a nest egg. Do it really smart ind put in something that gives you interest, you make even more money. You don't even really have to do without as much as you think. You just have to learn what you really want and not pay to impress others.

I see this all the time and for the most part it is not true. From example Zuckerberg T-shirts are like 400 dollars.

And I have nothing against avocado toast but if you do cut down on daily Starbucks and expensive restaurants you can save significant savings. I tracked my expenses for 3 years...I never splurged any particular restaurant but I found that if I seriously cut down on that stuff I could save over 1000 per year.

I think the point is if you spend all your money on bullshit you're always gonna be broke

Its an exaggeration, but it mostly refers to a mindset regarding money. Its no secret that a lot of not well off people like to purchase expensive brands just because its trendy and its a poor person mindset. Youre squandering away any small chance you might have on attaining more wealth by throwing your money away.

People look rich but are poor. Success wealthy people like Zuckerberg and Gates aren't wearing expensive brand named clothing. You don't get rich through spending it on clothes.

Saving $1000/year is not going to make anyone "rich". Unless you are literally in debt or on the verge of homelessness, might as well spend some money and enjoy life. Not like most people have any chance to get rich or retire young. The powerful elite have made sure of that in recent decades.

There are plenty of people who spend way more than a $1000 on bullshit every year. and if you make 20-30k a year a $1000 is a pretty substantial expense on bullshit you don't need at all.
