I know, I feel like I've been waiting on it for at least a year.

shit i dint know it was out this week. I hope its as good as the trailer looks

I have mixed feelings about the whole thing. The cast looks fine. The creatives behind it seem solid.

But like Sandman possesses such and incredibly unique style and tone. It has a feel that is extremely Sandman. And I just don't feel it. Like you could never capture the imagery of the comic without a ton of special effects, I get that, but when I see the trailer I don't get the Sandman feel, I just get a special-effects-fest.

I think it might just be a story that is truly made for the comic medium. Like that's the only place it can ever fully be itself.

I listened through the Sandman series on audible and I loved them.

I 100% agree. For one thing, there's often not even a single direct plotline in the comic, it's just different shit happening all over the world. Like the issue which is just about cats. I'm sure they'll have to change a lot and leave out even more.

That said, I'm still looking forward to it. I think the fact that the comic book is so unadaptable makes me feel better about anything that might be "wrong." The only thing I hope they do adapt that I think has a decent chance of not being adapted is Sound of Her Wings.

Pretty excited for it. Been reading through the series again, since I heard they were going to include some stuff from Overture, which I never got around to reading.

It is being adapted. That's the title of Episode 6 and Gaiman said it's his favorite and why he picked the actress who plays Death.

Fucking great then. I wasn't complaining that it was going to be different, I was just saying that I don't blame them if it is different because there's no fucking way they could adapt it completely.

Fantastic news. All I wanted was that issue and Dr. Destiny in the diner. The trailer showed me the latter, so I'm a happy camper.

Watching the first episode now. As I expected, it seems like they're giving it more of a straightforward plot than the comic, but it'd be hard not to.

I liked the first episode, but it was difficult to watch over the sound of every tumblr user's mouth desiccating with the thirst they're going to have over this thin, pale, dark-haired, brooding twink.

I read the first deluxe edition book this year, and now I'm wondering how good thisll be, ill have to watch this later when i can. I didn't like the design choices and gender swapping of a bunch of characters at first but hopefully the story is intact.

Okay, it might get better as it goes, but Matthew being voiced by Patton Oswalt is very distracting lol.

Alright, I'm on episode 5 (24/7) now, probably my favorite part of the first arc of the comic. I've been really impressed with how well they are adapting it honestly. Just little things I didn't think they'd bother with.

Like in episode four (A Hope In Hell), I thought they'd skip Morpheus meeting Nada in Hell. Nope. Then I thought they'd skip that Nada sees him as a young black man. Nope. When it came time for the contest, I thought they'd change it into a more direct trial by combat or something, but they kept the exact same thing.

And I'm only about ten minutes into episode five, but it's actually looking very much like the entire episode is going to be in this diner with Dr. Destiny fucking with the world. They're setting up all the patrons and making you care about them the same way the comic did.

Okay, I can confirm that episode five is very good, but it is kind of hilarious that Dr. Destiny apparently just likes making everyone gay lol.

If they do a season 2, it is kind of important. The last scene of the final episode is setting up a storyline anybody familiar with the comic would recognize.

Very true. I suppose they're more optimistic about a season two than I am.

I saw the title of episode 6, and was blown away by how much it compared to my memory of the issue with the same name.

I remember people saying john constantine wasnt going to be gender swapped, yet i get to episode 3 the actress is both the ancestor and the current constantine

Kinda hope what you're saying is true, cuz reading the above article where they interviewed neil gaiman. They said because sandman was so progressive in the 80's (which it was and great for it) they decided to make john a female, cuz for the sake of progressiveness, while im not against prorgressiveness, its just i wish they didnt change this well established and popular character just for the sake of it

From what I've read, they couldn't use John Constantine since HBO is currently shooting a Constantine series or something and therefore has rights to the character

I also wouldn't be surprised if they just wanted to avoid associations with DC. I imagine Batman and Martian Manhunter won't be showing up either.

It would have been great for MMH to make a brief appearance so we can see how dream looks to other races like in the chapter where dream meets him

100% yes. They're considered one of the greatest graphic novels of all time for a very good reason.

And Sound of Her Wings was lovely. Kind of funny that the same actress has been in two different shows about accepting death. And about the end of the episode, I don't quite recall the comic. Am I right in thinking that in the comic, Morpheus didn't miss any meetings? I seem to remember their first meeting after he was freed was in the 80s, mostly because he had the hair to match. If so, that's a nice little touch to match the different timeline.

Oh, shit, first live-action appearance of Static Shock.

I mean, it's a kid wearing a t-shirt with his old DCAU version on it but it still counts.

Just finished the season, haven't binged a show in a long time but it was pretty good and kept all the weird shit I remember from the source material which is a plus. Hope they don't get the ol 1st season Netflix cancellation

And alright, my first real disappointment: they didn't try very hard with Despair. She just looks like a dowdy, unwashed lady. I know they couldn't do the whole nudity thing, but she's one of the more visually striking Endless and they didn't do much with her here. Especially in comparison to Desire who I thought they utterly nailed.

Oh, shit, I didn't know Stephen Fry was in this!

And god, people are going to be mad as fuck about this show being "woke." Not realizing that every bit of it is from a thirty-year-old comic. God help them if Wanda ever shows up.
