This may or may not be inspired by a certain other topic, as well as my desire to see just how strong Elden Ring is

The Last of Us got beaten very easily by Dark Souls, so that isn't winning unless you think Elden Ring is a full step below Dark Souls.

Similarly, Skyrim 60-40d Goldeneye in the last contest (with possible Undertale spillover affecting it), while Dark Souls got fairly close to Skyrim. So Goldeneye isn't beating Elden Ring unless, again, you think ER is a full step below Dark Souls.

MGS2 got 45% on Resident Evil 4. RE4 is strong but I think it loses to Skyrim without much trouble. So I probably wouldn't take MGS2 over ER either. It versus Goldeneye is more of a tossup

Elden Ring > TLOU and Goldeneye > MGS2 both feel easy

The next match depends on whether Elden Ring is the next Skyrim and it might be

I forgot that there was a direct comparison match! In that year MGS4 was pretty much equal in strength to MGS2, so yeah, close to a tossup favoring Goldeneye.

I said Goldeneye > Elden Ring but I could very easily believe Elden Ring > Goldeneye

tbh as far as the series is concerned, Elden Ring might be the strongest... or would be if more people had played it. The PC requirements and the rarity of PS5s have made it kinda inaccessible.

But Goldeneye has the nostalgia factor too, so... I'd say Goldeneye > Elden Ring.

Elden Ring sold more in one month than Dark Souls 1 + Remastered sold across its entire lifetime.

Having thought about it I have to change my mind to Elden Ring > Goldeneye - people tend to vote for 'all-time greats' but I think Elden Ring passes that eye test for most people and it's just insanely popular while Goldeneye's time is sort of past

That's... interesting. Gotta wonder how many of those people actually played it though.

My PC, which I just completed building, can barely run it, so I didn't bother buying it. Though it looks like it's on PS4 and XBONE so whoops. I'd thought it was too intensive for those consoles, my error.

It definitely doesn't run well on the consoles, but it runs!

It runs fantastic on PS5 and the PS4 version runs better than Dark Souls did on the PS3.

Also it has sold 12 million copies in about two weeks or something. So I think the playrate is being grossly underestimated here.

As for the poll. It is an easy result

Elden Ring > Goldeneye

I would be skeptical about Goldeneye vs MGS2 though.

Elden Rings reception felt like Breath of the Wild.

Also voted ER > GE.

Elden Ring stomps this, but MGS2 vs Goldeneye feels like a tossup to me.

I dont know if I would say that it runs fantastically on PS5, but it definitely runs better than several From games before it.

Anyway, Skyrim narrowly beat Dark Souls and beat GoldenEye pretty easily, Elden Ring is going to be at least Dark Souls level likely stronger so Elden Ring>GoldenEye. The real question if if GoldenEye has weakened enough to lose to MGS2. A lack of rereleases or sequels will do that to you but that also applies to MGS2 and there is that supposed GoldenEye rerelease so I think that GoldenEye would still win that.
