A user on Reddit named sadfutago recently posted footage of him accessing an area no one had seen before in the game, and gradually drip fed more and more of it, including Replicant and Drakengard references. This thread has a good summary of what's happened so far.

Speculation ranges from a very well done mod/hoax since everything is ripped from other games (though the modding community for Automata says this would be very impressive for just one guy) or some kind of marketing/ARG for the upcoming Switch release or a new game.

Now he's dropped a twitch link, saying that something is supposed to happen in three hours, and changed his reddit profile to read "Not official, not an ARG" which at this point doesn't mean much. I guess we'll see soon!

Well there goes any believability that it was some random new guy who found a thing without realizing it. This immediately sounds fake now.

That stopped being believable after like his second or third post where it was obvious he was playing dumb.

Jury's still out on whether it's marketing or fake.

This is like that time that someone made a full TAS of some game (I think it was something on Wii U?) just to show off a new emulator that he developed, except less interesting.

I thought I read there were a few comments from people who got pre-release copies of the game and said they had seen the room as well. And so the theory was it was patched out day 1 and this person just had somehow not updated.

Were those people lying? Mistaken? In on the plot?

I've barely been following this just heard a few things here and there

Regardless of this being a mod the speculation was a fun ride!

If they release those tools and they are that powerful then you can expect a lot of fan hacks of Nier Automata, who knows what talented people will be able to make!

A new emulator sounds way cooler than this. Only chance these guys have is to release the tools.
