First Ave. A famous club in Minneapolis. At least they moved it down the street but for what? Place is legendary for a legend of a comedian and they canceled?

Because he's been making anti trans "jokes" that aren't truly meant as jokes.
He's legitimately spreading trans hate, and personally dislikes trans people and is against trans rights.

Surprised you haven't heard about that yet.

Apparently the employees who manage running shows at the theater all said they would not work at all for a Dave Chappelle show. The solidarity of the working class defeated a scumbag, and the owners stood by their employees. Only way the story could have been better is if there'd been no rescheduled show elsewhere.

Not at all dude. There are a lot of very bad people that are bigots themselves trying to cast doubt and spread that lie. I assure you, none of them are acting in good faith.

AmericaTheBrave posted...
Has he actually said this?
He's made it unquestionably clear that's the case. Only the hopelessly naive and ignorant would be stupid enough to give him the benefit of the doubt if they've been following it. But like I said, the vast majority of people denying it are doing so in bad faith, because they too are against trans rights and therefore terrible people.

LoL i wasn't trying to scalp them but didn't want to go to the place they moved it too so I sold em. Believe they were like 130 bucks sold them at 250 each....which was nice compared to what I seen other people trying to get for them.

As I said in another topic, of course Dave Chappelle can perform at bigger venues than First Ave.

if he was performing there, it was because he wanted to, because of its musical history related to Prince and purple rain, etc. its one of the most famous venues in the country

them deciding not to platform him is a personal slap in the face to him over his hateful content, and reportedly he said as much in his relocated show that night

It is funny when Chappelle fans try to act like Carlin would be on their side in all this when he's straight up talked about how shitty it is to make jokes at the expense of marginalized groups.

Except Dave is pandering to the evangelicals who want to eradicate transgender people, so even if his jokes didnt reflect his own views (they do), they embolden people who are very dangerous to the transgender community.

I don't get Dave. He leaves his show because people were laughing at him and other black people instead of the jokes then comes back and starts making fun of another group and it's the same thing. It's not jokes regarding trans people, it's "jokes" made just to shit on them.

Honestly this. Yes I get that in his last Netflix special that he's "empathetic" to trans people, but he wasn't cracking a joke when he said he was team TERF, it was a statement. Actions speak louder than words.

With that said, I'm still of the opinion that you're allowed to make any kind of jokes you want. My only contention with Dave and his trans jokes are that they're not very funny because the punchline is always the same. It's the equivalent of Stephen Colbert where he keeps making Trump jokes, he's a hilarious comedian but the punchline is always the same regarding Trump.

its comedy is not a defense for saying hateful shit

i guarantee you Ive seen and supported more live nationally famous and local comedians than you will in your entire life. Many of them have said many things that can be considered offensive. What you and many posters ITT dont understand is there is a difference between offensive jokes and straight up hate speech. Dave Chappelle is, at best, flirting with straight up hate speech if not fully endorsing it in his TED talk comedy specials

for the record I saw Dave Chappelle in like 2014 when he was coming back and he was doing trans jokes where the punchline was this person is trans even then. The jokes did not land then, and that hes only doubled down on it and made it his entire shtick is massively disappointing for not only the entire trans community but also *actual* fans of comedy as its all hacky shit with obvious punchlines ripped straight out of Babylon bee headlines
