I didn't believe the overwhelming praise online, it seemed unbelievable.

But this is actually not bad. Sure it's not the greatest in the world and they shamelessly rip off quicksilver in days of future past (it seems every speedster is gonna have that kinda scene from now on)

But sonic was likable. That's crazy. I actually found him endearing at times.

I did have a suspicion it might be good because James Marsden is underappreciated and seeing him in some shots filled me with confidence.

Finally you have jim Carrey as Dr robotnik the Eggman. Hoo boy. No wonder he said he wanted to quit acting. He gave his most jim Carrey performance yet. I mean the dude went all out. Its like a combination of every role to date times ten. I know Jim Carrey doesn't phone it in for his roles, but he went the extra mile and then some with the carreyness

The movie was fun and I still can't believe it

The sequel is even better

But regarding the beginning of the movie... that was clearly a bunch of knuckleses wasn't it? That looked like a tribe of knuckles and I instantly thought of all the implications with that. Master emerald shenanigans?

They made a good decision to not incorporate chaos emeralds into the story (yet)

Yeah, it was an echidna tribe.

I was pretty impressed too. Both Sonic movies are probably the most fun "live action" video game movies I've seen.

That Tails teaser at the end though.

its definitely still a great movie but theres one plot line that felt completely pointless

I like the scene where Jim is working on the quill he got from sonic and just completely hamming it up

I knew it. There has to be master emerald shenanigans in the sequel or something.

The existence of that owl character made me think they would go with a freedom fighters vibe with all those ancillary sonic characters but I'm glad they haven't gone with the anthropomorphic furry animals, I prefer this direction they took with having a James Marsden character.

I still haven't seen either. But I really want to.
The first one got cut off because of Covid Shutdowns.
I honestly was able to say the last thing I did that was fun was 1917.

~I am still going to watch them.
I have a friend who is totally into movies and stuff, he turned me on to MST2K, so Sonic is on the docket.

Personally I liked Detective Pikachu a bit more than Sonic but both are good.

I have absolutely no idea how the man does it.

Like, the scene where he shits on Neal McDonough for like 5 straight minutes, it's impressive but he's working off something.

Then you've got these whole scenes where he's going off and the man is clearly alone in front of a green screen.

The Sonic movies being good was a pleasant surprise. When I saw the trailer for the first one I thought it would bomb, especially with Sonic's redesign.

Then the studio *gasp* took the fans issues to heart and changed it, and here they are with two good movies under their belt with a third likely.

Sonic needed a win. His videos games have been dogshit for the most part (sans the original genesis games) so his movies being good is a nice bit of redemption for the character.

They already confirmed Sonic 3 and a Knuckles show on Paramount+.

1st one surprised me with its quality, wasn't a huge fan, but it was a decent kids movie that I wouldn't be embarrassed about.

2nd was the bad cringe movie that I had expected the first one to be.

The Sanic joke was funny and actually felt organic rather than shoehorned in

The first movie looks bad on the paper so it was a surprise that they managed to turn it into a good movie.
I mean, it takes place in a real world Earth, Sonic is an extremely ugly CGI, Green Hill is an American town, it seems to be more focused on a human cop, Jim fucking Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, it is a roadtrip movie, etc.
