Are there any?

Are there any artists who's music will still be listened to through multiple generations, like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc are?

I feel things go into an out of fashion so quickly nowadays, that no one really has enough staying power to become timeless.

Now this isn't an argument about whether or not a bad like The Beatles are good or not, but their staying power, despite not being a band for 50 years, cannot be denied.

Billy Strings, for sure. he's a generational talent. he'll probably never break into 'mainstream', but i predict he and his band will still be heavily touring 20-30 years from now, assuming everyone stays healthy.

Of the ones already mentioned, only 2 I can see it happen to is Taylor Swift and Bruno Mars.

I mean, The Beatles were HUGE.

I don't see any of the other acts to be "pass down generation to generation" acts, simply because older music isn't forced on the younger generations like it was 30, 40, 50 years ago.

Like, I don't see my 70 year old self forcing my grandkids to listen to Kendrick Lamar, no matter how much I personally like him

Maybe. I'd add him to the list of possibilities. Just wondering if Kanye the person has turned too many people off.

I just keep coming back to T. Swift and Bruno Mars because their music is also the "safest" music that all of pop culture can embrace regardless of age.

does stand the test of time only mean people will still bump them for example in 70 years? or could it mean that the music is still sounds good in 70 years?

idk if the comparison is bad, but there are games and movies that stand the test of time, but it's not like you're gonna hear a bunch of people talking about playing like...super mario world or something.

The Beatles first album came out 60 years ago. They're spanned multiple generations despite not having a new music in literally 40+ years.

Do you see there being Strokes of Killers TShirts being worn by toddlers in the year 2070?

That's the kind of "Test of Time" I'm referring to.

Not necessarily, but that's the kind of comparison I'm trying to make.

I just think of terrestrial radio, and in any given major city, there's at least 2-3 stations that play nothing but songs that are literally 40-50 years old, yet there's not terrestrial station (at least by me) that a "Greatest Artists of the 1990's" station. It seems like we move one from things so quickly that nothing has true, widespread, universal appeal anymore, like bands did in the 60's and 70's.

I guess it's also going to depend on what kind of society we live in years from now.

Like I love Pac's music, but a lot of the reason his music has so much staying power is because it's still culturally relevant nearly 30 years after his death.

which is why i brought up the is it still good in 70 years vs people still listening in 70 years thing. there's so much working against new content because every year that goes on, there's more to catch up to, there's more content creators coming for your attention. artists/albums that might be capable, or even will, stand the test of time, have so much working against them.

Very true.

I guess the question isnt WHO will stand the test of time, but will they even have the opportunity to stand the test of time or stay relevant 50-60 years from now.

I'm sure nearly every artist will at least be listened to by people through apps like Spotify, and even satellite radio even has a lot of channels that could be expanded upon in the future. Hard to say who will still be popular decades from now though.
