Can someone remind me why I changed my mind from no to yes on NATO? Because this is a shit show.

Something not mentioned in that English article is that The Highest Court here in Sweden denied Turkish extradition requests last week since these grounds for extradition arent crimes in Sweden. That has upset Ankara.

I would much rather we just trade at this point: Sweden and Finland are in, Turkey is out. They already basically betrayed the alliance by buying russian anti-radar systems knowing full well it would mean the US couldn't send them next-gen equipment out of fear that weaknesses could be reverse engineered. They're basically incompatible with the alliance at this point.

Some of you guys are seriously undervaluing how important it is for the Turkish Straits to be in NATO hands. That is a profoundly significant geopolitical stress point on Russia.

i don't agree with turkey, but if we promised something in return for their NATO vote, and we then don't fulfill it, i would expect nothing less than them rescinding in the NATO thing too

I don't underestimate the strategic value of their physical geography, but this is kind of new territory for NATO in that they've effectively got an islamic theocratic dictator with a history of genocide who has threatened before to flood Europe with refugees on "their team" and it's becoming a bigger and bigger problem over time, ESPECIALLY with regards to Turkey's seeming desire to play both sides by buying Russia military hardware, putting the whole alliance at risk for no reason other than "they felt like it" and because it gives them a position of strength in negotiations.

Sooner or later Sultan Erdogan will leave NATO and join Czar Putins and Chairman Xis alliance. Turkey is just a mole.

The thing is that we have independent courts. Something Turkey seems to have trouble understanding since it is a dictatorship.
