I think it was slowed by, but also greatly helped by covid. Before covid developers could get away with half-assed delay based netcode. But once people had to quarantine, devs realized that shitty online play would be noticed more, so they had to up their game to the superior rollback. As more games adopt rollback, less people will be frustrated with slow motion, laggy online matches, and will keep playing the games. ...Unless it's the player who's at fault because they have fucking goat powered internet.
