Nobody actually wants them at the end of the day. They want to collectively generate enough unsubstantiated hype (The same kind that made people buy No Man's Sky and Cyberpunk) so they can buy in cheap and then scam people with what would otherwise be laughable, unjustifiable prices for pictures which are vaguely touted as being "the future" or "the latest world changing technology". It's a playground for criminals. Nobody involved in it deserves the benefit of the doubt.

yeah the point of these is to hype them up and convince everybody else that they are high-value, exclusive, rare, and unique. Even if you don't care about the NFT, you should act like you do, because that will make other people think it's got value, and an NFT's value depends entirely on what people THINK its value is. In other words, an NFT's value is exactly as much as you can convince people it is.

I can kind of understand this shit if it was actual good, talented artwork, but all these NFTs look like something you'd slap on a novelty T-shirt at a Spencer's that only some goofball neckbeard would wear ironically.

The real benefit behind NFTs is that all transactions are transparent, you can see exactly what account gets what money for whatever. Perhaps in the future, you could see what politicians are receiving what kind of lobby money from where or what exact work has been done on a car you wanna buy from where etc and how much it's marked up. That also means competition has to mark up or down fairly since everyone can see everything.
The other benefit is that ownership of anything can be moved around so yeah stuff like used digital games or movies or maybe even subscriptions could be traded around.

I agree that this stuff is kinda pointless for now but I think the aspect of total market transparency is a great thing.

If they were any good it would distract from the fact that they are going for people so mentally checked out that they think that NFTs aren't a grift. In addition that would cut into the raw profits as the act of using the silly Internet number for everything isn't conducive towards making peak profits.
