People keep calling it for some reason so I'll probably like it. I usually do when they say that.

sometimes, its more about just not wanting to deal with being around people in a crowded place

I heard Christian Bale delivers (when doesnt he?) the rest is so-so

Current RT score is 68%.

Compare that to Dr Strange 2, which people were split on, at 74%

I've heard the opposite; that is has been accused of queer-baiting.

Either way, zero interest, won't see it. I'm burnt out on anything superhero.

I did, it's quite good. I think it's better than Ragnarok.

I would have a couple comments:

-the (childish) jokes are pretty much non stop similar to Thor Ragnarok which can get a little grating. I would say that this film understands a little bit more how to draw back a bit when required for dramatic scenes, of which there are quite a few. But some people may consider that tonally inconsistent.

-i think it's a very impressive film visually. A lot of the fights are really cool to watch and the villain in particular is really cool to see despite his look intially being very off putting to me.

-the film makes a really big deal about "gods" which is kind of at odds with the rest of the MCU presenting everybody as just different kinds of aliens.

-Korg's CGI looks weirdly bad for some reason, maybe because he gets more closeup shots, idk.

Oh and I wouldn't really call it a gay film.

There are a large number of jokes/remarks about Valkyrie and Korg being gay but both characters never progress beyond goofy sidekick. Thor, Jane and Gorr are the central characters of the film and a lot of screentime is devoted to Thor and Jane's relationship.

I saw it. Had some pretty cringe moments even for an MCU film. Bale was great and the black and white fight scene was awesome

I enjoyed it. Not amazing but it had some fun moments.

I think it's unfortunately becoming clear that Feige letting directors do too much of their own thing isn't working super great. Definitely let 'em bring some personality but Eternals, Strange 2, and Thor 4 all kinda show that somethings not working.

I don't necessarily think it's a bad move, but it's going to result in films that arent hitting that 90+ RT rating. The MCU has pretty much perfected the modern blockbuster, so any deviation from that is expected to lead to more divisive films. But you're also going to get films that are some people's absolute jam, and it may eventually lead to giving mainstream audiences something they were craving but didn't know they wanted.

While Strange 2 wasn't personally my thing, I know a lot of people dug it. I think Thor 4 is gonna be similar.

I'm more concerned about the TV shows, which it seems are expected to do a lot of the heavy lifting now as far as introducing new characters to. None of them feel like more than your standard made for TV superhero fare. I think it hurts the brand and is a turn off for casuals.

Wandavision and Loki had the advantage of coming out during COVID and got a lot of attention. But Ms Marvel is apparently doing poorly in terms of views, and I wonder if that's going to affect the quality or reception for the Marvels or the rumoured Young Avengers.

I feel like the problem is that putting him fully in charge of both the film division as well as the TV division - and making him a consultant for Star Wars on top of that - has finally spread him too thin. Now any value he once brought to the franchise is basically lost due to his lack of focus. And he's probably suffering from a bit of burnout at this point, which only exacerbates the problem.

It used to feel like Disney ruining Star Wars was more the exception, with Feige running the MCU as an example of how Disney could run a large franchise correctly. But now it's starting to feel like Disney is slowly starting to poison the Marvel well too.

Maybe the MCU was just a fluke, and now we're starting to get the creatively bankrupt version that was always inevitable.

$143m opening weekend, biggest for any of the Thor movies
Not as much as Dr Strange 2 in terms of income and ratings (possible downward trend for the MCU?)

Black Panther 2 is next in November

Kinda curious to see the four hour scatter brained thrill ride that might exist.

I thought it was a pretty fun movie. I don't think it was as good as Ragnarok though. It sounds like Taika would like to do another one and hope that he gets to.

Its....ok. Just ok. It is definitely better than Thor Dark World, but nowhere near as good as Thor Ragnarok. I was excited to see Christian Bale in the movie, but unfortunately his character was a let-down. Not blaming him, he's a great actor, but blaming the writing. He had to work with what he was given. And there was a LOT of Guns N' Roses for some reason. Like everything was about that band in the movie. Even Heimdall's kid renames himself to a GNR band member; you only need one guess. I was happy to hear a Dio song in the credits though.
